Just Got a COVID-19 Visa Extension at Chaeng Wattana, Bangkok. Here's What Was Required...

OK so I could not find much official information on the required documents and the process in order to receive a visa extension due to COVID-19 so I wanted to post my experience up there at Chaeng Wattana.

This is the first time I had attempted to get this type of visa extension so I will write the post for first timers and/or people contemplating getting the extension vs trying to get another type of visa.

Documents required...

TM.7 form
Passport main page with the picture & personal info, entry stamp page, visa page, extension page(s) printed out
1 passport sized photo
1,900 THB

It was basically the same process as getting a regular tourist visa extension, even easier really. I went at 1 PM and was finished by 1:30 PM. They did not ask for any rental agreement/proof of address, no outward bound plane ticket, no proof of income, no COVID-19 insurance coverage, etc. Also I did not have to get an appointment to come back later and get the stamp, it was all done on the spot.

I went a few months ago and had a normal tourist visa extended. I am not 100% certain but I think if you have a normal tourist visa and have not yet extended it the 30 days you need extend that 1st before applying for the COVID-19 extension. Again, this is something you could ask about once you get there. Either way it's pretty much the same process and you still go to the J windows for the extension.

The one thing I wanted to note....they would not give me the extension starting on the end date of my regular tourist visa extension, they start the new extension on the day you apply.....so try to plan to go the day of or a few days before your current extension expires. I have read conflicting things on this. Maybe if you are already on the COVID-19 extensions they start the new extension after the current extension date expires?? Maybe someone else can answer that.

Anyway, let me know if you have any questions and I will answer if I can. Hope this helps someone.

Hello,

No. I was surprised how easy it was. I actually emailed with immigration a few times the week before I went to verify what I needed and they said.....

"Dear Sir,

Document required for Covid extension reson as the same document for last time. You can walk-in directly anyday before your visa expires.
Thank you"

That is from the email --> division1.immigration@gmail.com

Oh but I forgot to add....after I was in front of the immigration officer they supplied the affidavit and 2 other documents I had to sign. So I guess technically it is required but immigration supplies the documents so you do not have to print and fill them out beforehand.

Thanks.
Immigration will supply all the forms but sometimes speeds the process up if you've already downloaded and completed what you can, especially if Mr Grumpy is in the queue behind you. ?

The other two forms you were asked to sign would probably have been the acknowledgement of the 'overstay' rules and terms and conditions of the extension application, which is a fairly standard procedure with all extension application.

Welcome to the forum and for an informative first post.

OK thank you.

When I go back in a few months I'll post again if anything changes with the process.

As it stands, the deadline for 60 day Covid extension applications is Sept 27th, but I'm confident that deadline date will be extended to sometime November given the current Covid situation.

Hope that will be the case. I can not see why Thailand would not want as many law abiding people here spending money during these times of zero tourism.

I wasn't here so can't comment but I do know the extensions have been going on for some time. Immigration would be wise to just make a 90 day renewable visa for like 10-15k each time, call it a digital nomad tourist visa or some shit and make it good until 2023, they can rake in a few bucks and everyone would be happy.

Past year they cancelled it. Then extended it again making 100 leave if not 1000s.
I guess this won't be happening. Digital Nomad's are better of on a non-B unless working from their home and not posting about it on public forums then a Education visa works for some - However just like your current "COVID" permission it doesn't grand you to work in this Kingdom.

I for one wouldn't find it bad if it gets cancelled, people had 2 years to arrange their perm. solution.

Hello,

my friend has got to extend the tourist visa, for Covid19 reason. Her visa will expire September 5th.

From the above messages, I understand that, because extensions are possible until September 27th, she can go any day in August, and get an extension of 60 days from September 5th, or at least an extension valid until September 27th. Correct?

Any news about whether the Tourist visas will be extended again for Covid reason, beyond September 27th?
Is there another part of this forum dealing with this info?

Thank you in advance

There is another pinned topic worth reading as to when to apply.

Not as yet. Immigration tend to be quite late, or last minute with these types of announcements.
Don't expect any further announcement on extending the period until at least mid Sept.

Your extending the 60 day stay granted on entry, not the Visa.

Hey Gavi,

Yep, she can go any day but what happened with me is that the immigration officer said they had to extend it starting the day I was there. So if I was your friend I would go on Thursday the 2nd or Friday the 3rd of September.

News on the next COVID visa amnesty application deadline should be on this website when it becomes available. The last time they extended it is was a few weeks before the deadline was up so it left a lot of time for planning.

If you need any more advice I would just email the immigration department at the email below. They got back with me in about 1 day.

Thank you, indeed, I was looking for that.

And thank you also for the explanation about the way the extensions are granted.

And yes, very good point: the extension is on the entry, not on the tourist visa.

Thank you, cheers, best regards

Hi, wow, so immigration does actually answer division1.immigration@gmail.com   and in English... I am surprised and thankful for the info.

Very interesting: so the 60 days extension on the entry, will count from the day she will apply for the covid-19 extension. So, going as late as possible, (for her on the 2nd or on the 3rd of September) is the most efficient tactic to get the latest expiry on the entry.

Thank you also about the clarification on how to best get updated, on this forum, about the next COVID visa amnesty application deadline.

Thank you!

sorry for 2 not very informative posts in a row from me: aiming for the bronze medal !
Cheers!

OK Gavi, no problem.

Yeah the visa stuff is always something to worry about & it's pretty hard to get official info from the government website on the fine details. What I wrote is what happened with me in Bangkok, maybe different around the other provinces.

But yeah, it feels better just to email them and get answers directly for sure.

They'll ask for pictures of your passport pages so have those ready to attach.

You weren't required to complete the affidavit for the Covid extension?

Just a heads up I went to CW today and they said I needed this, then handed me the form to fill out. All in all everyone very nice, in and out 30 mins...when they saw me trying to decide which reason to check off for the extension, they just took the form and marked no flights 5555.

Does anyone know if uk citizens usually get passports back on the same day you go in to get a covid visa extension (assuming they agree of course). my tourist visa runs out on october 14 and i had already bought flights to chiang mai a few days later...many thanks in advance!

Hi Lesley,

I went to Bangkok immigration last month and got everything done, stamped & out the door in about 30 minutes.

I know others will probably have different experiences from other provinces but that is what happened with me.

It was my first COVID extension, not sure if that matters to the officers or not.

Yes, same day, but beware certain Immigration offices will only give you an under consideration stamp for 14/15 days then request you return on that date for the remaining 45 day stamp.

I go to the Korat immigration office and every time its same people that process my paperwork. This time they asked for some additional paperwork (copy of house book and id of the thai national) but they basically said i will be automatically approved next time in November. They gave a copy of the paperwork i will need and a little check list for the documents needed so we can bypass the lines. Make sure to set an appointment online. Wife did it through Facebook.
