Yes it was a bit of a foregone conclusion wasn't it when the Phuket mafia in cahoots with this dastardly government thought it an excellent idea to fill their pockets due their delusion that foreigners really wanted to come to Phuket. Well sure some returnees but the rest no doubt window-dressing and all expenses paid, mainly to bring Israelis there. An article in the Phuket News laid it out in just a few short paragraphs:

 

'Ms Nanthasiri (TAT Phuket office director) noted that the first month of the Phuket Sandbox will generate about B190 million for the Phuket economy.

“We estimate that the average expenditure to be about B40,000 per day per person,” she said.

“Additionally, we have received bookings for SHA+ hotels for 190,000 room nights for the three months July to September,” she noted.'

That Sandbox will never close as long as it is bringing in cash.

I think the  lady official from TAT,  is living in dream land. Each tourist spending 40,000 baht a day. When she eventually wakes up, she will find she is drowning in her bowl of cornflakes. But the good news is there's another hospital to help her.
