Koh Samui’s re-opening plan, Samui Plus, may be cancelled if the Covid-19 situation worsens in the next 2 weeks. Yuthasak Supasorn from the Tourism Authority of Thailand says for now, the re-opening is still on, although a recently approved plan to allow participants in the Phuket sandbox to visit Samui and other islands after 7 days on Phuket has been scrapped. The Samui Plus model also dictates that if over 20 Covid cases are recorded in the next 2 weeks, tourists will be required to stay in quarantine facilities. Here is a chance for The Thaiger to change the narrative of this BS.

How about using your investigative  skills and break down the real numbers....

Total Infections found = xxxxxxxx

Total asymtomatic = xxxxxxx

Total actual covid deaths = xxxxx

Of course the hospitals are filling up if they keep people who are asymptomatic.

There is just no perspective with this virus.. Far more people are dying on the roads, by suicide and a whole host of normal diseases..... But I guess that does not fit the narrative....

This is not just a Thailand problem, I think Australia is even more of a basket case.... ?

Those numbers are available at:  COVID Live Update: 197,365,402 Cases and 4,214,619 Deaths from the Coronavirus - Worldometer (worldometers.info)

I think if I was a tourist I would be planning my exit, it happened last time people got stranded here

There are 2 or 3 daily arrivals (average) to the Samui+. Shutting it down or keeping it going doesn't make too much of a difference.

On the other hand, the second part of the article is quite interesting. "The authorities have also confirmed that businesses that violate Covid-19 restrictions face prosecution."

There are hundreds of bars and clubs in Chaweng. Miraculously only black-bamboo was allowed to be open till' sunrise. If you think it was a coincidence then sure, investigate and prosecute, but you will find some conflict of interest if you look close enough or from a different angle :)

As for the Black Bamboo it wasn't even hidden from anyone. Amazing what a brown packet in the right pocket will achieve !

This one is quite unique in Thailand and I think they realised this lately and changed it.

Far more people are dying in violence than in cancer (worldwide). So you are suggesting to stop treating cancer patients? What do road accidents have to do with a virus?

Yep.  And if you are an Expat in a business that will be affected, then planning an exit strategy is wise.  That does not mean quitting - it means planning just in case. Like wearing a helmet when riding a bike - just in case.

It is time to face reality. Nearly all of these new cases are from Thais coming to Samui. The Thai people are the real danger now, not the incoming tourists. So, do a better job of screening them. What are you guys getting paid for, anyway?

Memo to the handful of tourists who are there, and to any tourist about to arrive. Prepare to be locked up in quarantine at your expense.

They really can't think beyond how to scam money. Why quarantine a few fully vaccinated, non infected tourists who you say you want there, when it's locals who are driving up case numbers.

Could it be that it's an opportunity to extricate a few more tens of thousands of baht from tourists?
