A new announcement has declared that all domestic airlines must cease operation of any passenger flights out of the dark red zones including Bangkok and Pattaya beginning July 21. The decree comes as Covid-19 infections continue to rise in Bangkok and surrounding provinces while daily Covid cases hit 5 digits and daily deaths hit triple digits, both for the first time. The restriction also limits the capacity for all domestic flights throughout Thailand. An exception is to be made for emergency landings, medical flights, and also for the Phuket Sandbox and Samui+ reopening flights, though details are not clear on […]

Oh boy. This is going to put the last straw on many people and businesses camel’s backs. It is too intertwined. Congratulations and job well done to the uncaring you know who.

“Travellers who have completed their 14-day arrival soft-quarantine may struggle to travel to the rest of the country afterwards.” - So the idea of using these schemes as entry to the greater Thailand is now officially dead. The upcoming high season will at best be a shell of its former self.

Yes, anyone on those sandbox schemes as a short stay tourist must now begin to wonder if they will be trapped on Phuket/Samui for who knows how long. They are going to need very, very large wallets if they are.

No telling if international flights are next to stop. You have to feel for the ordinary Thai who must feel powerless to do anything whilst their livelihoods disappear, while they have to watch nonsense like buying submarines or thousands of lamposts.

Even now, the decisions being made seem inadequate. A proper, full lockdown (which this isn't) can only buy some time, nothing more, time to vaccinate people. But....no vaccines.

Yes a real danger of any expat using this to return to their life in Thailand is under threat. If they are stopping flights leaving Bangkok then this has to be the start of a larger nationwide lockdown. To be honest, it’s probably the better option. Just close everything for a month and stop the rise in hospital cases and deaths. This is like going back in time to March 2020. Just a dreadful situation forming. The only way out of this madness is vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

Why delay the restriction until next week?  If it is an identified problem, surely immediate action is required.  Yes, hard on some travellers, but surely containment of the pandemic is the issue.  I do scratch my head in wonder at some of these announcements and reactions.

How about BKK in transit on domestic flights? Nearly all domestic flights use BKK as their transit.

This would be interesting.

Is it still possible to go e.g. from Buriram to Phuket domestically.

Difficult to reconcile moves to limit travelling when they've only just announced that "a new plan would make arrangements for people identified to be infected with Covid-19 to be transported by these teams out of Bangkok and back to their home provinces, especially in areas with much lower Coronavirus infection rates".

Ho hummmm ..........

Even Vietjet don't know what the position is!

They do now.  They have cancelled all of their Thailand flights, domestic and international, until further notice.
