This is not meant to be homophobic but I just wish we could get an ambassador with balls, who actually cares and does something for their citizens living abroad.

But don't we have ? Husband and wife has 4 between them, should be enough.

Sir Anthony did also have this to say though ...

The British ambassador's leaving missive described the then Thai foreign minister as “vain, touchy and disputatious,” adding “His obsessions about liberals, about the French and about Cambodia sometimes make one wonder whether he's altogether sane,” while conceding “He's not altogether entirely repulsive.”

Sir Anthony does have a few good words to say about the Thais, however.

Despite their faults, “it does a faded European good to spend some time among such a jolly, extrovert and anti-intellectual people,” he said, praising their “excellent manners... fastidious habits (and) graceful gestures.”

“If we are elephants and oxen, they are gazelles and butterflies,” he added.—

Meanwhile I'm sure that the Thai's would have referred to old mate the ambassador as  "Buffalo" rather than an elephant or oxen. I'm also sure that Minister Anutin would be more than capable of rivalling the old ambassadors disparaging comments when describing modern day farangs.

What reactionary rubbish on this forum, from the sad  people who think the " pc brigade " means they are forced to except their views ,or it means they can't openly peddle their Xenophobic, racist nonsense .Like that old ex British Ambassador from 60s spouting his colonial views. Would not some of you be happier in the right wing countries you come from 555.

Please provide a link so we can learn what "that old ex British Ambassador from 60s"  was actually saying and who he was.

He is my first 'ignored' poster. No way I am interested or will reply to anything that person says. Clearly one of those fanatics from TV who is always looking to start an argument - and then complain and get people banned (or ban them themselves).

Don't get to optimistic Colin because if you read my link you would have seen he is married to Dr Christopher McCormick, an education specialist !!!

Must be a job description requirement. Can't be just a coincidence, can it? It would be nice to know who's on the panel that chose him!

Don't think it is a coincidence and this is the 4th one here that I know off over the years so maybe Thailand is considered a safe haven for  them . As these are positions recommended by the Foreign and Common Wealth Office for subsequent approval by HM Queen, it give an interesting insight as to whom works at the FCO

Explanation: He can lie in more than language.

Possibly not quite the same positions that these Ambassadors take or enjoy though

Well hopefully he will be better than the last 1, he was more concerned with his American boyfriend than his responsibilities as Ambassador.

Also his dress sense was a disgrace.

He wore a dress did he. That explains the boyfriend.

I doubt this new Ambassador will be any better than the rest. The Thai British Embassy has evolved a system of avoiding all contact with any citizen that might compel the Embassy to have to work.

I had to contact the foreign office in London because the Thai Embassy would not answer emergency telephones or emails while a friend was dying .

For months after that all calls to the Thai British Embassy were routed through the London Foreign Office, to make sure they would answer.

British Embassy staff are just parasites on the British public purse.

100% agree and that's the problem in my opinion when it is run by people who are obsessed in confounding evolutionary principles
