As Malaysia has 50% more deaths from Covid (22k) than Thailand (15k) on a total population less than half Thailand's size (31m), and Langkawi used to have 75.000 inhabitants (now less, as many have left after 18 months of no tourism) and vaccination rate is nowhere near required either, I hope for their sake it's incorrect.
Having even 10-15% occupation rate in the many hotels is nice after all the misery, until you have to cremate a family member or friend because it was "a bit too early after all"
Blah, blah, blah. Who is surprised by this? Flippity flop, flippity flop! That is what Thailand is being known for. How long have they been doing this? It wouldn't matter if they opened the country anyway because nobody is going to come here!! Restrictions, hoops to jump through, quarantine!! Who is going to do that when there are so many other choices for vacations with no restrictions or quarantine. It is about someone hanging on to the power here. Come October, they will flop again and change the opening date until Dec or Jan. It is what they are good at.
