With the rapid-spreading Delta variant of the virus becoming more prevalent in Thailand, the CCSA says they expect the average number of daily new Covid-19 cases to double in the next few weeks. Health officials are now preparing for daily new cases to hit 10,000. With the emergence of the highly transmissible mutated strain in Thailand, not only has the number of new Covid-19 infections increased, but the number of patients in critical condition and on ventilators has also increased. As long as our illustrious leader and his sidekick with foot-in-mouth disease (A-Nut-In-here) keep telling us 'we've never had it so good', the problem will go away of its own accord.
Won't it?

It would be nice, (expected?), that an English language site would avoid the errors that non native speakers, understandably, make in their comments. Inform and educate.

See Headline.

As I mentioned on a similar article. The same variant is doubling cases every 9 days in the U.K.  and that’s with 50% of adults having had their full course of vaccines. Nowhere near enough for herd immunity to kick in. So 14 days in an largely unvaccinated population seems optimistic.

Yes soidog.. in uk doubling fairly quickly, but looking at data mostly unvaccinated and single vaccinated that are getting this so spot on with herd immunity.. thats what's worried me here in phuket, in an earlier post of 17 infections today (weather that will get recorded officially) but that would not happen if herd immunity has been reached.. I've seen no party or singing and dancing say look how good we are of achieving the 70%.. so that can only show they haven't.. in another news site only 80% of the 70% needed 1st vaccine and 64% of the 70% fully vaccinated

For it to double they would have to actively test. For that the government would have to spend some money. You could say they would have to double the amount of spending as well. Could you see them doing that?

Agreed. All these comments about herd immunity by officials are so inaccurate  and vague. Even the figure of 70% itself isn’t something that’s a hard fact. However, let’s assume 70% of the entire Phuket population needs to be fully vaccinated. I don’t know the exact population but let’s say around 400,000. That means 280,000 people need two vaccinations or 560,000. How many shots have been provided? Does anyone have that figure?

The conversation can of course then ask all kinds of questions such as migrant workers arriving and efficacy of various vaccine types etc. But for now, let’s ignore this and let someone present the numbers of people who have had a double dose and those who have a single dose. I’m sceptical if it’s anywhere near 560,000?

well, i did notice many of us , who are not expert, did foreseen such number since the beginning of the new wave ........ if this really happen Thailand will have to close the border and apply agressives measures which will hurt much more tomorrow than 3 months ago. if the government take such measures ......... gov actions are really questionable ...... NT Australia no new case, restrictions  (mask in public area) should be lifted this coming Friday. one asian take away was closed for non respect of the protection measures. well here authority does not play. jeezzzzzz Thailand was so close to control it, this gov just screw it big time.

The fact that vaccine was never ordered in time and the expectations of getting handouts for free from other countries means herd immunity will not be achieved for a good year and a bit (If Lucky) .. Winter is Coming methinks
