After watching many vids from NATO and the UN, it would seem that collectively they want/will see Heir Putin fail, there is an air of confidence about that between them.

Reminds me of Saddam Hussain, had the fourth biggest army in the world, trashed in short order by modern armies brought in from around the world, most certainly surprised his lot. 😊

How long did the gulf war last 90 days I believe how long has it taken Putin to occupy Err liberate 1 major target he wanted to take?

Which was my point, Heir Putin cannot match the free world's military tech, even with none of the free world's boots on the ground. 😊

Active personnel1,014,000[3] (ranked 5th)

Reserve personnel2,000,000[4]

Impressive until you break the numbers down a little. As for active personal, it’s important to remember conscripts are not allows to fight outside of Russia unless war is declared. Contract personnel can not be forced to fight outside of the country unless they volunteer. That 1M includes everyone from the men on ships, to aircraft mechanics, to the guys who drive trucks. Don’t get me wrong it is a big army. However, as someone pointed out, Russia is also a very big country for that army to cover. Without calling a general mobilization, there is a finite number of people Russia can send to Ukraine to fight.

As to reserve personnel:

The Russian reserve has over two million former conscripts and contract servicemen on paper, but few are actively trained or prepared for war.[11] Historically, only 10 percent of reservists receive refresher training after completing their initial term of service.[12] Russia lacks the administrative and financial capacity to train reservists on an ongoing basis. According to a 2019 RAND analysis, Russia only had 4,000 to 5,000 troops in what would be considered an active reserve in the Western sense, meaning soldiers attending regular monthly and annual training.[13] Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has repeatedly stated that the Russian Armed Forces hoped to have 80,000-100,000 active reserve members.[14]

https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/explainer-russian-conscription-reserve-and-mobilization

That reserve force is little more than a piece of paper with 2M names on it in Moscow. To access those men, Putin needs to mobilize and so far he is refusing to do so. Clearly there is some domestic issue keeping him from doing so, what that is I’m not sure. Even if he does, those men are probably 4-5 months of training away unless you are looking at them as little more than cannon fodder.

I live in the North West of England palooka and on Thursday a convoy of Missiles was pictured traveling up the M6 motorway heading towards I presume The Faslane naval base where Trident is armed, also our newest Astute-class nuclear Subs which some are in Faslane carry the latest Tomahawk cruise missiles mmm a coincidence or just forward planning if required.

Not that old Chestnut you can do better than that sounds like clutching at straws. I have to remind you Astro a Royal navy Trident class Nuke Sub will already be positioned to strike Russia if needed. the US and French have Nuclear options too if needed. So don't go down that Road.

Of course Us & French have nukes, too. But will they reciprocate on behalf of the Ukraine in case of limited, localised strikes on Ukrainian territory? That would go against NATO policy.

I don't find the possibility so absurd and laughable as some here.

There is also still the possibility of a nuclear installation disaster, be it by targeting or accident. It has been a close call already.

Too scary to imagine and talk about?

Would Putin be willing to turn part of the Ukraine into an uninhabitable wasteland as a buffer zone, if he can not win the war - ehh, sorry, military operation?

He very nearly did astro when his troops took over Chornobyl then spread contaminated soil when his tracked vehicles churned up the soil and spread it about.

A question oldscooler would you be prepared to sit down with Lavrov or Putin who has committed war crimes such as looting, thieving, and Raping, civilians continuously. Do you really think they can be trusted after how they told everyone there " Liberating " Ukraine?

Thats surely a question for the Putin fans. but No & No. as neither side wants peace yet there is simply no peace to be had yet. 😉

Hopefully forward planning that is not needed.

Scary thought, the western world calls out Putins threat of nukes.

Sadly it may well come to that and I'm sure Putin has been made well aware that the western world and in particular the UK, to whom he has been very vocal with nuclear threats, are preparing to eradicate his glorious attempt to reunite the Soviet Union and in particular Russia itself.

Crap from the Russians has been going on for far too long and I think the world is fed up with their unwillingness to work peacefully with other nations for the betterment of mankind.

ZJP should also take note that taking what you want by armed force has no part in the future.

There are many, he is one and being a member of the "ONE " faction is being a loser, he can ask Hitler etc in the next life on how they fared. Their great world scenarios of a new order, died with them.

And poisoned themselves through ignorance of their commanding officers and are possibly lining up for a horrible death.

Mearsheimer is a modern version of Kissinger. A realist who isn’t very realistic.

In Mearsheimer’s world the strong get to demand from the weak. A step back to the world pre 1945, with the same outcome. There are two main problems with is line of thinking. First that Russian interests are paramount and those countries near them have no interests. Second in making Russia feel secure. About a dozen countries with a total population twice that of Russia, must allow the Russians to write their security policy and in doing so give up their sovereignty. That was never going to happen.

It took a Nuclear Specialist to tell Putin what he was doing and the damage to his troops occupying the site in Tents to listen otherwise they would still be there. Clueless or not giving a toss what the implications of his action would be to the Environment.

Anybody that questions the holy beliefs that Ukraine will win the war, that Russia is struggling & broken on it’s knees and that good always beats evil. Some people also call them realists.

Think he is with the Germans and French and sucking up to Russia, until Russians start kicking down doors in both countries, then they'll scream the loudest.

Merkles politics (for Germany) and alignment and dependance on Russia for many years is very much responsible for Germanys attitude and dependence on Russia.

Macron is finally waking up that he is being left behind politically (he's becoming a bad joke and a French embarrassment). I'll give him a ring and talk with him. dope. Then the penny finally dropped with Macron that Putin is not a resonable person.

How do you negotiate with a mad man, who threatens his neighbours daily, so there is no peaceful negotiated solution with a bully.

People like this gentlemen think all of mankind are people that can be reasoned with, he just needs to talk with them.

Don't forget Palooka who committed war crimes. Some People on here think you should sit around a table with Tea & Biscuits discussing peace with them. Let's not also forget the Kremlin butcher stated " We Don't Target Civilians " after a Russian missile slammed into a shopping center and a Tower block killing over 40 people with 30+ missing probably vaporized while doing their shopping. Are the realists willing to debate these Deaths or are they going to sweep them under their carpet as usual?

I don't think Zelensky and Putin personally committed war crimes.

Who in the chain of command ordered or tolerated it, is still subject to investigation, I believe?

That's a silly comment.

Neither "are sucking up to Russia" nor will "Russians start kicking down doors".

I don't think Hitler personally committed any war crimes, maybe we should look to posthumously give him a pardon, can we count on your support? 😟
