What that tells you is…. nothing like this was foreseeable Last night, a building collapsed in Miami, Florida. 1 person is reported dead, dozens are missing, and 99 people are unaccounted for. 102 people have been located, so far. It is unknown how many people were in the building when it went down. A search and rescue effort is currently underway to locate the missing. Of course it was foreseeable - the engineering report from 2018 noted "major structural damage."  The were in the beginning stages of a multimillion dollar restoration but it was apparently too late.

On top of all the problems that the last engineering report noted, building collapse experts are surmising that rising seas, attributed to climate change, may well have seeped under the building and the salt water ate away the supports and rebar.

 

That could be a troubling scenario for many high rise buildings built close to the sea.

A very cruel turn of fate there, with restoration already planned . . . very sad.
