A taxi driver’s brakes failed as he pulled up to a queue of traffic at a red light in Bangkok earlier today, causing a crash involving 10 vehicles. Four people are injured including a motorbike driver who is in a critical condition. Today, May 26, Pol. Col. Jeerasak Boonyuennan from Phaya Thai Police Station received a report of an accident involving several vehicles at Makkasan Industrial Estate Intersection on Ratchapraprop Road in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district. Considering most drivers have their foot on the brake when stopped he definitely had a lot of speed to damage that many vehicles.

That’s part of the problem right there. Blame transference.  It is a collision, it is not an accident. The driver at fault will blame his brakes because, in Thailand, it is often not the guilty party’s fault. Sure, he didn’t mean to have the collision but that doesn’t mean it was an unavoidable accident. Commercial vehicles should be held to higher safety standards than an annual checkup simply because they do a lot more kilometers than your typical vehicle.

Yes in this country its probably the fault from the other cars and bike if the are not there they can not be hit by the blind taxy driver who not like to drive slow by the looks of it

Speeding, texting, drunk or maybe all three. Brake function is usually easy to check even after an accident, but you can’t easily tell whether a driver actually put his foot on the brake pedal at the right time or not of course. The police have to start checking brake function after accidents where people are injured and make a big deal about it in the news.
