THE LATEST After a popular Facebook page claimed this week that dirty black water at a Phuket beach is being caused by nearby businesses, an official insists it is not. The page, titled Monsoon Garbage Thailand, posted a damning video of the water flowing into the ocean at Kamala Beach. But Kamala Tambon Administrative Organisation Chief Jutha Dumlak told The Phuket Express that the black wastewater was left over in a “sand trap pool” in water drainage systems from the dry season. He said now that the rainy season is beginning, rain has started to wash out the leftover waste water into […]

So... during the dry season waste is dumped into the system but the system holds it in a "sand trap pool" until the rainy season...

Ah... so there is a source... find it and stop the pollution...

Instead of arguing who or what caused it, it might be wiser if chief Jutha Damluk starts doing something about it. Like cleaning up. Most wealthy tourists that come to a beach want to enjoy the fresh air, and the crystal blue water. They do not want to enjoy the smell of black water, nor do they want to swim in it.

fixing would require action, cost , logic  duty & integrity rather than deployed shameful “face- saving”  ( not !) prevarication 😡

I’d say even poor tourists don’t want it.

However, I’m sure such images will result in the hi-flyers private jetting in to spend millions of baht each. It’s all in line with the new government initiative to attract wealthy tourists. Don’t worry, it’s all part of the fully integrated Master Plan. It’s just we stupid foreigners don’t understand it.

Just like Thailand's decades of 'haze'.

Form a committee to save face

while keeping one's head stuck in the sand

with any real action........

I wonder if anyone has ever had the water analysed.  Even 11 years ago it was black, not frothing like heavily polluted waste water, just very dark.

Artesian water contains minerals, iron, magnesium etc and these contribute to black looking water but then so does the run off from roofs, roads and vacant land where rain water picks up dust and dirt.

It was never a good look for Kamala and most local tend to swim up the northern end or at Surin beach.

  • 2 weeks later...

“I have confirmed this time wastewater is not from businesses dumping garbage or waste as many mentioned or speculated on in social media.”... This time? So it has in the past, and not been exposed?

If you know where it didn't come from, presumably you know where it did come from. Maybe just once try fixing it as opposed to looking to place/deflect blame. Wishful thinking, I know.
