News Forum - ‘A poll is just a poll’: Thailand’s PM Prayut unfazed by opposition’s popularity
Thailand will hold a general election at some point before March 2023, but polls reveal that current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is not the favourite to win. PM Prayut says he’s not worried about the poll results, because “a poll is just a poll.” Paetongtarn Shinawatra – daughter of ousted ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra and central figure of the Pheu Thai Party – recently came in at number 1 in a quarterly opinion poll taken by the National Institute of Development Administration, or NIDA, which is a university in Bangkok. NIDA interviewed 2,500 adults of various occupations, income and education levels […] The story ‘A poll is just a poll’: Thailand’s PM Prayut unfazed by opposition’s popularity as seen on Thaiger News. News Forum - Thai MP and brother get 2 years jail for election fraud
In my village the headman bribed people to vote for him, between 250 and 1,000 baht. Also in some cases pork was offered for their vote. The head man in one term gained a new car, new pickup, trucks, rice harvester and no doubt other things I don’t know about. Election fraud and bribery is common. -

It should be up to business to determine their prices. If they want to offer their accomodation at a lower price to attract customers it is their decision. If you look on booking sites i guess most prices are not too much discounted anyway. People know how much a room is worth. You can't sell a 600 baht room for 2000 baht. Thai nationals can join varies stimulus packages to get huge discounts. At the moment there is already double pricing. I know Thai people who could stay at a 5k per night resort for half the price. I can't affort these prices. If you want to brand your country in a certain way you should have the pre requisites in place. Attract business in the premium range, infra structure in place ( not the old busses and trains), end the problems in the service industry (taxi's overcharging in phuket). Expensive national parks with dirty toilets etc. And how to put this in practice? Dual booking sites? One for Thai nationals only run by the goverment? And for the pm who was happy about the current figures of arrivals, i think most are visiting family and the ordinary people who love Thailand who bring in the money. I think goverment is mistaken how much these ordinary people can spent. And from own experience. I had pre pandemic family over who stayed in hotels for 5-6 k a night. However they found excursions of 8k ridiculous if you could do it for half the price. And they didn't want to eat every night in a big fancy restaurant but a local restaurant with mostly the same service. People come to enjoy the local Thailand not to sit in a limousine. And at last, the midrange rich are also having trouble these times. And for the very rich they have their own tropical island.
