Visa Exemption Stay Conditions Now?
The ticket out he was forced to buy was departure from the same point of arrival - Survanabhumi, should he be refused entry to Thailand. His initial outbound ticket was departing Don Mueang. The rule (advice) you mention given by Thai Embassies assumes you would be allowed entry to depart by air, bus, train, or boat out within 30 days. Foreigners who enter Thailand under this Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme may only do so for 30 days at one time, with a maximum of 3 times in a 6-month period by flight and 2 times a year for overland crossing. Foreigners entering Thailand under the Tourist Visa Exemption scheme must show the documents listed below at the port of entry: Proof of adequate finances for the duration of stay in Thailand i.e. traveller’s cheque or cash equivalent to 10,000 Baht per person and 20,000 Baht per family. Proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date (**otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained). https://london.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/84451-tourist-visa?page=5d6636cd15e39c3bd00072dd&menu=5f4b6eb3f6ae4b236972c562 Ultimately, if refused entry it's the airline's responsibility, and they make the rules for boarding. -

The Origin of Isan
Thanks for the post. I did a search, and saw that there are just a few pages of the book on Google Books. I noticed on the very first page of the book it says: "The word Isan itself is of Pali-Sanskrit origin and simply means 'northeast direction'" and quotes as a reference the Encyclopedia of the Royal Institute of Medicine Bangkok 1982. (what an institute of medicine had to do with defining the word 'Isan' I don't know) However, this seems to further throw doubt on the text in my OP, that "the national government claimed that the name "Isan" was derived from Sanskrit Īśāna, a name of Shiva" source: https://books.google.com/books/about/Isan_Writers_Thai_Literature.html?id=kSmwBgAAQBAJ&redir_esc=y -

News Forum - Female soldier seeks help after being abused by senator’s wife
Sad comment... "trial by farcebook"... sad that your initial reaction is such... sad that this woman had no other recourse because of the elitism in Thailand.
