While Thailand is pushing full steam ahead to reopen to international tourism, the United States government issued a statement warning Americans not to travel to Thailand citing Covid-19 risks and civil unrest in the south. The US Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs regularly updates travel information for US citizens wishing to go abroad, issuing a Travel Advisory Level from 1 to 4, and this week rated Thailand Level 3. The four stages are: Level 1 – exercise normal precautions, Level 2 – exercise increased caution, Level 3 – reconsider travel, Level 4 – do not travel. The travel […]

Its a sight less risky than your average multi-shooting which happens on a daily basis in the land of the free. The front of these people, really.

Does this mean that when I do eventually get back to Chiang Mai there might be less over grown American youths staggering around clutching a bottle of Chang?

Yet the embassy will not vaccinate US tax paying expats resident in Thailand with all of the extra doses they are giving away around the world.

Shameful!!

Not that I choose to listen to the worlds biggest war machine but if what the Americans see in the south is real, then this is good proof of the Thaieger and other [Engligh] Thai news media is taken a "break" and for the most only have their eyes on C19 and the govt ever changing plans.

I here all the time from my friends back in the USA that there is a surplus of vaccines over there.  They are giving the vaccines to Asian countries including Thailand.  They cannot earmark some for the expats living here and paying US taxes.  Doesn’t really surprise me. Sad.  The traveling warning is ridiculous… the part about Covid ok sure.  But the embassy saying they need special passes to go to the southern provinces ?seems unlikely to me.  I live in the south for 7 years and haven’t heard of that.   Who knows anymore.  Bottom line is vaccinate and open then we don’t have to listen to this Covid stuff everyday anymore

Agreed. Chicago, LA, NYC, all incredibly dangerous with constant muli-shooting gang war activity occurring.

Well, for the first time, i dunno what to say.... They must've missed the news about liquor sales allowed in the bars at Phuket, cause why else they would do such a heinous thing?

There is a higher probability to get infected in the US compared to Thailand. First of all you can't travel anywhere you want at the moment, and only to Phuket from July 1 if fully vaccinated to be able to skip the quarantine.

Bars are still closed in Phuket and will be closed even from July 1. Restaurants according to the latest news will be allowed to sell alcohol until 23:00. After that you have to buy at a local 7/11 and drink at home.

Well they've warned them about going to the UK, making the UK Level 3, the same as Thailand, for exactly the same reasons: Covid-19 and terrorism.

according to CCSA: Bars to stay closed for now, drunk customers risk the spread of Covid-19. Could anyone tell me the difference between drinking in the restaurant and home in relation to spread of infection?

Australia gave the same answer (shove off) to all its citizens living in Thailand and elsewhere in the world.  I am beginning to re-think things about China for a few reasons, and this one is a biggie.  China has made arrangements with many countries to give them vaccine doses for free, in exchange for them providing Chinese citizens living there with the vaccine on their behalf.  My understanding is that China has agreed to give Thailand 500,000 doses on the basis that Thailand takes an additional 300,000 doses and gives them to its 150,000 citizens.  And I believe that they have done this in many overseas countries where there is a significant number of Chinese citizens living. Meanwhile Australia and USA have made arrangements to have all their embassy staff and workers vacinnated in Thailand, and all other countries - but for their own citizens they are doing nothing - unlike what the Chinese Govt is doing.  In my mind China is starting to win the 'PR War' with USA and Allies - I will no longer accept that China is automatically 'bad'.  This latest episode proves they are actually better than my country in looking after its Citizens.

The reality is that there are so many American expats all over the world that it would be a logistical impossibility for the US government to administer vaccinations to all US citizens living abroad.  If they do that for Thailand they would need to do it for all countries where Americans live.  By giving more doses to the rest of the world it may in some way or another ensure that Americans will get vaccinated.

An interesting story.  Let me see, USA has 35 million cases, Thailand 230 thousand. -- USA deaths 1857/million people, Thailand 25/million people--- USA deaths 618,000, Thailand 1,700.  US is finally climbing out of its self-destructive Covid hole to find a soap box to preach reminds me of the Trump days.

@SinMac

I suppose if America is testing a lot more people per the population than Thailand then the figures will be seen to be higher in the USA

On the other hand Thailand is testing very few people, so how would you know who has the virus and how many people have died from it.

Can you tell me what I have in my back pocket without looking?

Don't disturb his delusion, he doesn't understand testing numbers vs cases. It's obvious once mass testing starts, the case counts go through the roof. IE: Thailand since December. The US has verifiably tested more people than any other country. Yes I realize China claims to have tested more than any country, but much like their GDP and economic growth, they've no proven data to backup their claims.

Except that a) USA cases have gone down 80% since March, Thailand cases have gone up 400% since March. b) The US has carried out about 500 million tests . Has Thailand carried out 100 million tests? Overall, pathetic post.
