Things are looking up for Thailand’s tourism sector as several entry restrictions are set to ease tomorrow (Sunday). On April 25, it was reported that 713,183 international travellers had arrived in Thailand this year, more than 50% actual tourists. Now, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reportedly hopes to attract at least 1 million tourists every month during the high season in the last quarter (quite a lofty goal). TAT’s governor said the tourism market should pick up during high season, with at least 1 million foreign tourists per month from October. TAT is focusing on tapping into tourism markets from […]

30k a day actually sounds reasonable.

Latin American "short haul" suggests geography lessons are needed!!

Well, dunno. 50% of 713k in the first 120 days makes an average of 3k a day. As long as there are destinations with less restrictions I guess a lot of potential tourists will avoid Thailand. No fun sitting on a beach with a facemask.

But the point is that the entry restrictions will be largely gone. They're at around 10k a day right now.

As for the mask thing; I've spent time in Phuket, Ao Nang, and other islands recently. No one is bothering to wear a mask pretty much.

But they’re about to ruin it all by trying to collect a 300 baht tourist tax.  Airlines are supposed to incorporate this fee into their booking websites but only for ‘tourists’. This means it will apply to some people booking tickets but not others and also although probably most tickets are bought through booking agents such as Expedia etc. Apart from the huge time and cost of developing the additional software involved, making airlines responsible for deciding which passengers booking tickets are, and which are not, eligible to pay the tax is almost certainly impossible.

When has the overly optimistic Thai government ever come close to its grandiose  economic predictions ? The prayut government clings to its tourist restrictions citing the dangers of the pandemic, BUT in reality, the problem lies in their failed vaccination program and its early dependency on the unreliable Sino Vac which China duped them into purchasing. Even then, it was better than nothing at all, but barely.  Just imagine how many more lives could have been saved if the top 10 wealthiest men in Thailand pooled their resources to procure addition vaccines.
