After a guard at the Thonburi Women’s Correctional Institute in Bangkok was suspected of corruption and bribery, an investigation is now underway. In return for alleged special treatment, the guard wanted money from the family of a prisoner. The guard, who has not been named, is now suspended during the investigation and will be fired if proven guilty. Somsak Thepsuthin, the Justice Minister, has directed the Corrections Department to look into the matter. The prisoner was deliberately cut off from any communication with her family since the last visitor ban was implemented 18 months ago. That is the real crime, not the piddling 6,200 baht “gift”. Shame, shame, shame.

Put her,or better if is a him, in with those same prisoners for a while before trial and we may hear about some interesting expeiences at the trial.

No doubt the inmate is one of the 80%+ incarcerated, by the regimes own figures, for making an adult personal choice to consume substances other than the deadly garbage the state obliges people to consume, to blot out their benighted existence in a country blessed with natural riches and cursed with salim thieves.

I'd hazard a guess that Dear Old Mum, who's still banged up in the monkey house, is none too pleased about her daughter's public crusade. 

There's the way things ought to be, and then there's Thailand.  Use the informal 'systems' to make your stay as comfortable as you can afford.   Higher ups may find a way to quietly dispose of Mum's case and kick her loose, just to get rid of this little problem.  Or it could go the other way, and in that case, I wouldn't want to be in Mum's shoes.
