The Department of Disease Control says around 50% of the Thai population has attained herd immunity against Covid-19, but the government’s target is 80%. This figure, combined with the numbers who’ve received 2 doses of a Covid vaccine, followed by a booster, means around half the population should now have herd immunity. He goes on to stress the importance of boosters, particularly for those in high-risk groups, such as people with underlying health conditions and the elderly. Whoever authored this headline and article does not know what Herd Immunity is. Individuals do not acquire it, gross populations do. But in the case of Covid, international experts have already concluded it cannot be achieved because the virus mutates too quickly for vaccines to keep up with it and immunity acquired by past infection does not provide immunity for future mutations. So even Sweden has admitted it is an unattainable target. Just as influenza requires annual new formula vaccination so will Covid, which means that herd immunity will never be achieved but medium term protection will be. The promotion of the HI fallacy will only increase people's apathay toward having regular new shots, this perpetuating the long term existence of the Covid threat.

Exactly, herd immunity is achieved when a high enough percentage( 70-80% ) of the population acquires immunity by immunization or developing antibodies through exposure.  Then  the virus has very few remaining hosts and will taper off.  Saying that 50%  now has herd immunity is ridiculous, but 50% with immunity is possible.

I wrote this just before Songkran that this is what they are trying to reach for by letting everyone get infected through travel. The closing of the bars- ahem- restaurants at 11pm is only an iron fisted regime control manoever under the BS guise of not spreading covid. Covid doesnt' have a wake up time and start infecting everyone by 11:01pm. Ludicrous!
