No engine, no cigar. That’s the hard line Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha set on Monday regarding the navy’s deal to purchase a Chinese submarine without the most important part — the engine. If China doesn’t include the German-made engine as stated in the purchase agreement, then it’s “Hasta la vista, baby.” “What do we do with a submarine with no engine? Why should we purchase it? If the agreement can’t be fulfilled, we have to figure out what to do. Isn’t that how we solve a problem?” PM Prayut made the statements on Monday in response to news that […]

Thailand navy won’t take Chinese submarine without German engine — PM Prayut

Hmm... I wonder why not?

Its not like the sub(s) will be used for any military purpose, and if the aircraft carrier is any example (and it is), then you could put a nice Gift Shop where the engines were supposed to be for when the tourists visit it while tied to the pier.

This could be a new level of tourism; an actual Thai tourist 'hotspot' which generates its own cash!

Genius!

Let's re-elect Prayut!

Smartest thing this guy has said in a long long time if ever.

Now this reads to me funny as a quote from article: Meanwhile, the public awaits a possible Thai general election, which the PM could call as early as November this year.

Aren't they normally all about General's elections in one way or the other?

They could finally make some use of their military, but since they're all generals, I doubt they wanna do such hard work😂

With at least 20% of "Made in China" turning up with defects of some sort, I would be holding out for German made enigines as well.

Dell, Lenovo, HP - Dell is the worst, I did several large scale deployments where the defect rate was in the order of 20%. Not all the kit is made in China, some of it is assembled in Europe, but a lot of the sub-components are manufactured in China. And I have given up on small items through the likes of AliExpress, so much of what I got was faulty. Quality Control does not appear to be in the Chinese mindset.

But they understand to take the mwm engine produced in China is also a german company and some must understand you need also all the other equipment anyway from mtu, all this compobebts to integrate all that can China not produce and must supplied. Nowaday a engine is not just a engine, software , semiconductors, high tech chipstechnology etc etc. China cannot build or deliver any submarine, warship, aircraft alone. This problem will becone now Russia.

https://www.dw.com/en/german-engine-technology-found-in-chinese-warships-report/a-59740301

China is not able to produce semiconductors, software etc etc what would needed, too, for aircrafts, submarines etc

Thwir space navigation is over european companies, their gps is under the european galileo program.

So it is not just about a engine and by the way mwm engines produced in China is from germany, too, just a so called cooperation because of the regulations in China to be able to produce. But they can be blocked too because they are under german regulations this company and will need anyway supply from mtu, too.
