The Public Health Ministry says it will adjust how it records Covid-19 deaths after it emerged that up to 30% of patients who died passed away as a result of underlying illnesses. According to a Bangkok Post report, health minister Anutin Charnvirakul says officials will revise the data to ensure the cause of death in Covid patients is more accurately established. The move comes as Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit from the health ministry confirms that between 10 and 30% of patients who died while infected with the virus also had conditions such as cancer. Thailand reported another 74 deaths yesterday, which […]

Numbers used by phony wizards as illusions of truth, while feeding people's hunger for answers prescribing the calming paregoric of snaky prevarications.

If you are of poor health and contract Covid then Covid killed you, no Covid you live longer, why is that so hard.

Next will be the road deaths, If killed or seriously injured, it wasn't the truck that killed you it was your cancer that was the problem.

The first sensible revision for reporting. Dying with covid doesn’t mean you died of covid. The US likely has inflated death numbers because emergency funding for hospitals was tied to covid status—ie a hospital earns more for a covid death.

The government can easily request doctors determine whether covid was a substantial contributing factor and also report all covid positive deaths. More data is better than less in this case.

This recalculation, and the under reporting of positive Covid tests, has absolutely nothing to do with the US and other countries recommending that it’s citizens avoid travel to Thailand. Nothing at all /s

Much better that they stay on their side of the pond, all things considered.

So far this poor reasoning, or manipulation that you denounce (it's a  sophism called "non sequitur", A + B = AB so C = conclusion that's actually not correlated to A or B..) has been largely used to serve the opposite purpose, cranking up Covid deaths numbers.. e.g. People in their 80s/ 90s dying of cancer, while having Covid...

Deaths caused by any other disease that potentially leads to lungs defect/similar symptoms saw an all time low or even disappeared in my country during 2 years. So much so that even some gov officials (probably the good guys in your book) are now asking scientists to investigate it..

I'm by no mean saying jumping to conclusions of one side or the other is better. It's scientifically wrong and serving political interests in both case.

You can also have covid and a cancer coincidentally at the same time, it just happened to be the cancer that killed you, not covid, cause you were about to die anyway, it just happened that you coincidentally caught covid just before. And sometimes it is covid that accelerates the conditon of your existing poor health and kills you, but NOT always, that's also not very hard to understand. You can have the same cancer and the flu coincidently at the same time, sometimes it will be fatal as accelerating your poor health, sometimes your poor health was already so bad that it did not make any difference, sometimes you do not die cause neither of these two things killed you at that stage. It is not because you are in poor health and catch covid that you necessarily die either.

The key thing here is not the debate over the definition of what constitutes a Covid death, it’s that you don’t go changing it part way through the pandemic.

All metrics or KPI’s are arrived at through a definition of what gets counted and what doesn’t. You then focus on chafes to the number. The actual number is almost irrelevant. If you start adding or discounting cases compared to the previous 6 months, you have to ask for what motivation. We know why the Thai government are doing this now. They are embarking on a new piece of propaganda to hopefully ease the fears, they themselves have created. I really don’t care to be honest what they do or what the number is. I wouldn’t trust any number coming out of Thailand and neither do many other countries. That’s why they are being moved to higher risk categorisation.
