One public health official says Thailand has a “secret weapon” to bring back tourists… It’s cannabis. Some experts and officials hope that decriminalising marijuana, alongside declaring Covid-19 as endemic, will help tourism in Thailand bounce back to pre-pandemic levels. The public health official made the statement over the weekend at a medical marijuana conference at Surin’s Rajamangala University of Technology. Many experts and officials discussed the benefits of decriminalising the plant, not only for health purposes, but also for the economy. However, while cannabis cafes and shops have been popping up all over Thailand, the products won’t cause a ‘high’ […]

Instead of flocking to Thailand , the tourists will realise  that its not really marijuana and its doesnt have the active ingredient in it that gets you stoned .

Its like a non alcoholic beer .

Although not legal in many countries, its readily available to buy .

It can easily be bought in the U.K , Brits aren't going to flock to Thailand to try some "non -alcoholic" marijuana .

Obviously this guy is smoking the good stuff (which is not what the tourist would be smoking). No one is flocking to Thailand to smoke hemp 🤣

They dont need no cannabies to attract tourists...just consider the covid situation as endemic and voi la .... once it is easier to come to thailand with no crazy travel pass, no pcr upon arrival, no quaranteening scams, millions will be back ... they gunna get so busy just welcoming real tourists who got the spending power which will create millions of new jobs.

Drop the thaipass, make it ATK at arrival.

Open nightlife! Open bars beyond 11. Drop the masks outside.

That is all you need for people to come.

This would be significant in light of the draconian laws against cannabis throughout SE Asia. Very comparable to Europe when Amsterdam was the only place to legally enjoy weed. I would imagine "conscious" Asian youth would make a beeline for Thailand. Probably end up with lots of Asian longstay hippy types and opening bohemian business. All in, a sound idea best done ASAP

Also a tourist draw would be the weed festivals. In fact really can't see any negatives surrounding the legalization thrust, other than the outbursts from the swollen red veiny nose brigade with the "reefer madness" mentality that anyone smoking a joint is a violent threat.

They are not legalising Cannabis with THC (the kind that gets you stoned) so this is a non-story and they will get no travellers from anywhere because of it.

Given the average age of the tourists going to Thailand at the moment, they are more likely going to be seeking out cannabis for treating their glaucoma.

This shows their incompetence and complete failures includin tat and how desperaye they are. They fall behind on other destination worldwide and their numbers went up and sure millions former tourists to Thailand are under them. Russia and Chinese tourists are and will gone on the world stage.

So are these people chasing weed without affect the same as the High class, High Spending tourists they were after a couple of weeks ago. You know, we really shouldn’t mock. Most of the people running this country are as thick as the proverbial bovine excrement.

I agree with that. And moreover, just ask Amsterdam how much they like cannabis tourist... The law of unintended consequences... Now they are trying to / hoping to reverse the trend. Any discussion of Thailand as a recreational weed destination misses the mark on logic and reason. Without legalized high potency THC weed there is no discussion always.

Seems as Thailand has compromised a bit.  Has gone from wanting only "High Quality Affluent Tourists" to any tourist that wants to gets stoned.

Adding hemp leaves everywhere and calling it cannabis infused food is like eating the grass. Veggies are good, but Thais are pathological liars and it will not fool backpackers
