It says the best-case-scenerio for them is detention and prosecution. Thais with military experience have signed up to fight with Ukrainian forces, though it’s unclear exactly how many. Some of them cite a sense of duty to stand up for a […]

I think we're well past the point where the Russian embassy gets to warn or say anything of consequence, never mind anyone actually care.

They are willing to go to a foreign country to fight but wouldn't stand up to a dictator overthrowing an elected government 😞

An 'elected'  (a bribed electorate of ignorant uneducated farmers) corrupt government, that was out to line its own pockets.  Let's have a little balance here folks.

Russian goverment under Putin are bullies. Bullies and goverment silencing control freaks need to go.

They are far worse than bullies, they are corrupt, psychopathic, megalomaniac  killers .  Maybe all out Military confrontation is the only way to deal with them.

Not really fair. Comment implies Thais as a whole want to go and fight for Ukraine but not against their own corrupt Govt. There surely will not be many Thais who go to Ukraine. But there were lots of Thais, including many students, who have stood up against the Thai government and faced jail time etc. Unfortunately it wasn't enough.

One of our Nephews, an ex Thai marine, is desperate to go to the Ukraine and help.  I have told him that I will fully support his young family if he does go, regardless of what happens to him.  He has my total respect.

the news is interesting but the journalistic added value would be to know if the allegation is true!

if so, nothing prohibits Ukraine from giving Ukrainian citizenship upon enlistment.

No comparsion. 2014 bloodless coup vs. 2022 Russian invaders killing opposing citizens. I think if there where ever Thai citizens being slaughtered as the result of a coup you might be surprised how many would rise up.

Its absolut nonsense and by the way russion legions are operationg in many wars inclusive Ukraine called the Wagner group.

The embassy should better shut their mouth because they not care about the stranded russians in Thailand with no access for money and canceled flies. Europeans and Ukrainian people in their condos give them food and not their embassy. Maybe the embassy should ask them what they think about Putin and the embassy. Shame Shame on the russian embassy. The ambassador should go on the knees on the floor to thank you to all Ukraine and european people who give them food and money while Russia kill their families. Shame on the ambassador of Russia!

And there are many Thais who serve or served in Europe or the USA. Many doesn't know how many Thais or mixed Families are living in Europe. And many for sure (mixed) also in Thailand.

first of all..screw Russia for trying to bully people...If anyone wants to help support Ukraine..more power to them and may they kick some a**!

Secondly...I wouldn't count on too many Thais fighting for Ukraine...as they won't even stand up against their own bully at home

Yes I saw this reported in the UK news as well. Lots of ex British army soldiers signing up and a surprising amount of simply young fit men with no previous military experience as well.

I do hope they know what they are getting into. Urban conflict is probably the hardest and most base type of fighting there is.

So the Russian embassy wants Thailand to grant extensions for Russians stranded in Phuket and at the same time threatens its citizens when they want to fight this dictator's attaques. Let them evacuate their own people. Like Thailand does for their citizens un Ukraine. Stop the war. Stop Poetin, the new Hitler.
