According to a Bangkok Post report, the TAT says it plans to attract 1.5 million tourists from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Australia. Thanet Phetsuwan says if travel restrictions are eased in Southeast Asia, Thailand should be in a position to welcome around 800,000 visitors from Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Singapore. “Some 1.5 million tourists from short-haul markets are within our reach, but we still want to have at least 5 million arrivals from overall 10 million […]

Want to is one thing, to actually get it is another thing. Keep dreaming.

Can’t see the Chinese returning until the fall at the earliest. Unless they can get past the zero covid policy, they might not be back until next year. Omicron is too contagious.

Chinese with property or business interests have, or are, returning.  Large tourist groups are not coming yet and while it's quite pleasant without the hordes, some local businesses would welcome their return asap.

Right now Thailand still requiring 2 pcr tests. Both need to be eliminated in favor of much cheaper antigen tests which can catch an active infection. Plus extra hotel fees and transport fees between $50-$100. That change alone saves short haul tourist $200. When the short haul tickets are $50 or less that’s a big deal.

Also Thailand needs to change the procedure for positive test. Mild symptoms should stay at the same room or at least hotel at the same rate. The hospitel scam has lead to a lot of horror stories in local markets.

People keep talking about travel bubbles. The people can already come to Thailand but they’re not because of these rules.

seems sensible for a change.

plenty of people fed up of being locked up in singapore and malaysia also.

few incentives to get people in the traveling mood again might be an idea also.

They are off with the fairys again, local countries are suffering too.

Sth Korea 240,000 Covid daily, Japan 63,000, Indonesia 24,000, Vietnam 142,000, Singapore 13,000. unless they mean short haul from Laos and Cambodia who are reporting very low figures.

Maybe they want the Covid infected to come here to recuperate in their planned medical tourism plan.
