Sounds about right - anyone remember the GT200 bomb detectors bought by the Thai army that turned out to be just empty plastic boxes?

They would have been better of buying some of the second hand subs from Germany , who have great knowledge of building them, they were offered. But maybe there were no backhanders there.

It will be hard to defend this stupidity but for sure some will try

It's an allegation from an out-of-work politician. No defence needed from any thinking person.

Stick one of those engines off a long tail boat on it. Hard to be stealthy but so what. Defence of the country is not the point of the purchase anyway. So what does it matter

TAT will be happy. The sub w/o an engine will be a nice tourist attraction, right next to the aircraft carrier w/o a single aircraft. Generals rule the country, a construction tycoon is Minister of Health, why shouldn't some Chinese language teachers be able to construct a fine submarine pier. In Thailand, anything is possible. If that weren't such a sad waste of resources, it could sell as a comedy.

Why do they need a sub.. the gulf of Thailands average depth is 58 metres.. safe working for a sub is 15-30 metres from the bottom?  The height of the sub must be 10-15 metres high?  Anyone flying over should see it ..

please correct me if I'm wrong on the figures

What do you expect for less than US$ 400 000 ?

For that price , it was probably just the shell being bought .

You wont get much submarine for that price

Top secret plans have been revealed of the final design and colour scheme with unconfirmed reports out of Germany suggesting their reluctance to supply an engine is _ _ _ _ _ (fill in the missing words) 🤣

I was already wondering. 12 million, there is no kickback big enough, to explain the "no engine, but we had to buy them"

I really must agree with the gentleman on this matter. I’m thinking that a submarine with an engine would be much better than one without.
