News Forum - Thursday Covid Update: 23,557 new cases; provincial totals

New Covid-19 cases in each province…

* Numbers are reported by the CCSA and are based on positive PCR Covid-19 test results. Provincial health departments may have a more recent update if new infections were found after the daily case count was filed with the CCSA.

Chon Buri – 1,250
Bangkok – 3,236
Samut Prakan – 994
Ubon Ratchathani – 216
Phuket – 645

PHUKET: More than 1,100 new Covid-19 cases are being reported daily in this southern island province and local authorities are focused on treatment at home.
Provincial health chief Koosak Kookiatkul said on Thursday that 1,100-1,200 new cases were diagnosed every day, More than 600 were in local communities and the others were visitors who entered the province through Sandbox and Test & Go programmes.

So on what list do the Sandbox COVID19 people get put on …. In Phuket they say 500 per day …. Lots of tourists must be self isolating.

Imagine what the numbers are like for the other tourist hotspots in Thailand. Maybe the TAT has taken over the reporting of numbers for the CCSA.

Good observation!

According to DDC (not Thaiger's source, which invariable reports lower provincial numbers) yesterday's subtotal for Phuket was 762 cases [1], so the gap is at least 300. At the same time, T&G + Sandbox + Quarantine reported only 115 + 78 + 5 = 198 cases [2], and that's nationwide. NB: yesterday wasn't special compared to other days this week.

So the reason suggested by the article of the Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok) Post (sorry, just practicing) doesn't explain it all, i.e. it's not just a case of excluding imported cases. My (very conservative) guess is that 20-30% of all diagnoses in Phuket don't involve PCR-tests.

Or maybe higher ….

The new caseload was 2,335 more than the 23,557 announced the day before.

Of the 23,557 new cases, just 228 were detected in new arrivals from other countries. The rest were all local transmissions, including 96 in prisons.

The figures did not include 22,240 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 3,236, followed by 1,250 in Chon Buri, 994 in Samut Prakan, 899 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 875 in Nonthaburi, 790 in Samut Sakhon, 666 in Ratchaburi, 645 in Phuket, 642 in Rayong and 629 in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Think what the number would be if All the positive ATK results were PCR tested …..  and even a 50% positive rate of that number would not look good.
