One of Thailand’s most respected experts in virology says daily new infections in the country could reach 100,000. Dr. Yong Poovorawan from the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University says the rapid spread of the Omicron sub-variant, BA.2, has taken daily infections to 15,000 in Singapore, where the population is a tenth that of Thailand. If the spread follows a similar pattern here, Thailand could soon see 100,000 cases a day. Yong says infections in Thailand will have to reach their peak before they begin to level off and drop, as has been seen in several European […]

Yet another kite flying exercise from this attention seeker. Who is to say that singapore is anything like a model for Thailand? Why not choose Nicaragua! As things go the trend looks far less devastating than 100k.

.....and they might not.

I seem to remember they were going to focus on severity of cases and mortality.

Whatever happened to that?

Him again. So he starts to say "could"... and then at the end...

Now, we are in the 5th wave and I am not sure whether infections will surge to 6 digits but I don’t want to see such figures

...so he is "not sure". Apart from showing his face again all over the Thai media, I am really struggling to understand the purpose or point to open his mouth there.

He goes on to say that if 100,000 people a day were to take a PCR test, with each test costing an average of 1,000 baht, the total cost for just 1 day would be around 100 million baht. In that situation, it would be impossible for everyone who tests positive to be admitted to hospital.

Yeap, perhaps it is time NOW, not tomorrow, not in a week, not in a month to change the strategy as it is happening in more and more countries. In England, they are about to even scrap legal requirements for self-isolation if tested positive (https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/britain-set-out-plans-scrap-covid-self-isolation-laws-2022-02-19/). It is time to stop wasting millions of baths in a now useless and obsolete manner and move on.

This is what Dr Clive Dix, the former head of the vaccination task in the UK, was saying already a month and half ago, and it is happening now in the UK (https://www.channel4.com/news/we-need-new-type-of-strategy-after-booster-campaign-says-ex-head-of-vaccine-task-force). Doesn't it seem to be the rational way forward, even for non-experts but rational people like us? It will inevitably happen that way, so why waiting longer?

It's time to throw in the towel and cross the line into Endemic mode and all get on with our lives. Lift our Spirits and get back to living life fully. No more muzzles :) Only the Land if Smiles across the miles. Communication will improve drastically.

In Holland we went from 2k a day to over 60k a day in 6 weeks. Likely more but we ran out of testing capacity. Hospitalization did not really go up, nor did the death rate. People who test positive are advised to stay home for 5 days or so. All restrictions (distancing, facemasks, closed bars, no large gatherings) are being lifted this week.

Thai population is about 4.5 times Dutch population.

you only look at lethality, your myopia prevents you from looking at long COVID. in France, it will be paid for by the community. will it be the same in Thailand or it's up to the patient to manage. I'm not talking about the 50% of heart problems in the year of those over 60...

Everyone is aware that Covid will never go away right?  I mean, the Black Plague is still with us.  It is going to mutate and spread.  Every ridiculous thing that has been mandated has not stopped it, nor was it ever going to.  At this point, if you are scared Covid is going to kill you, please stay home.  The rest of us are going to enjoy the life we have left, even if we get struck down by lightning tomorrow.

Exactly. Stop restricting those of us who are fit, healthy, young, not scared and don't get ill or any combination of the above and can contribute the economies of the world.
