A number of patients who’ve recovered from Covid-19 are displaying signs of dementia, according to Thai health officials. According to a Nation Thailand report, the Department of Medical Services says the symptoms tend to develop between 1 and 6 months after contracting Covid-19. DMS boss Somsak Ankasil says the risk appears to be higher in patients with pre-existing brain or neurological conditions, such as stroke. There is also a higher incidence in older patients who have multiple underlying health conditions. Somsak says dementia will affect the functioning of the brain, affecting concentration, short-term memory, and the ability to focus on […]

The story Thai health officials see signs of dementia in some recovered Covid-19 patients as seen on Thaiger News.

It would explain some of the input I've seen here.

Seems normal for me so no one will notice then. I can walk right past my wife in a store even with her staring straight at me. But of course it doesn't help the matter for keeping my concnetration where it should be with all the hot little Filly walking around.

On a serious note, let's hope this dementia is not permanent for all the poor folk who caught CV-19. Bad for them and terrible for the family members who will have to take care of the poor person.

In other news, 100% of the people who got dementia before Covid-19, didn't get it from Covid-19. Don't scare people. Maybe dementia comes thanks to those quarantines and lockdowns. Thats is the part which mentally can harm people. Seems more likely than that a respiratory disease will cause it.

Any "dumbness" is more likely to be on the part of those who are unaware that "brain fog" has been widely recognised as a result of Covid for a long time, for "up to 25% of those who develop Covid-19" .

https://www.healthline.com/health/covid-brain-fog

Unless they've got post-Covid brain fog, of course, in which casec there's an excuse 😯.

So they tested them before they got covid?  …. so people with dementia caught COVID19, got better, but still had dementia!

First article I opened talked about younger people having such symptoms. Stopped there.

How much of not going to school and 'studying' online takes part in that? Being forced inside, not socializing, being on their phone/laptop all day. They just point to Covid to take the chance to make it appear worse.

How much of wearing a mask the majority of the day takes part in this? It's not healthy at all not to fully breathe in and out. Especially for a long time. Plus a part of what you breathe out, gets back in, so that's not a complete breathe of oxygen. The tighter they put them, the worse it get.

How much of the 2 year long fear porn, depression, loneliness and traumas in people have taken part in this? Thanks to fear mongers like you and the news, they were almost certain they were gonna die. What does that do to a brain? We are talking about being bombarded with this for 2 years to people who actually believe it.

Showing a bunch of articles about the same topic has as much effect on me as showing just 1 article. It doesn't add anything else other than you trying to shut someone up with a different opinion. Try critical thinking for a change instead of copying the 'experts'.

If you are a proper parent, your kids are getting all the socialization they need

Mask wearing, show me the study where doctors and nurses, who've been wearing masks all day for decades, have any symptons

I will wait for that article..........

If I write an article about it, would you believe it? 😂 Just because it's in an article, doesn't mean it's true. I'm not posting articles here and there to prove my point because I actually can think too. If all the truth in the world is posted in articles, what do we still need a brain for? Let the 'experts' write it in an article and that becomes your bible, instead of thinking for yourself. And don't you dare to question it.

Im just asking legit questions. You just get into the conversation instantly not believing any additional suggestion. That way we keep talking about the same old story where everything is scary and there's no hope for humanity and everyone will die from Covid.

Btw, when I talked about the masks, we are not talking about the lose medical masks that they used to wear, which were only used for the patient's protection against any droplets from the doctor. We are talking about the masks that fit tighter, cloth masks, etc.

But overall, you don't look at the deeper meaning. I talked about being able to breathe normally. You can say what you want, but out of my own experience, I can definitely say that whenever I wear a mask, I can never breathe the same way as without a mask.

About the parent thing. Most parents are paranoid about Covid, because whenever they arent, they'll be called names, harassed online and what not. So they go with the flow. Socializing in this case doesn't mean parents talking with kids, because that's by far not all the socialization that they need. It means kids interacting with other kids and being outside, like everyone in the past did, which is normal. Parents didn't allow that during Covid and some still don't. This can't have a mentally positive effect on younger people.

You talk about fear mongering

But this all reads as Fox News fear mongering/nightly outrage

Masks...............of course, it's the "cloth masks" that 10% of people wear, let's focus on those because that is the Fox News talking point...........

My point stands, doctors and nurses have been wearing surgical masks(that the vast majority of the public wears) for decades and they don't have any medical issues from it

So your point is invalid...............again a Fox News talking point

And if you have that much difficulty breathing in a surgical mask, than you should probably see a doctor, because you may have some underlying issues that need to be addressed

I think we'd all prefer not to wear a mask over wearing one, but you should be concerned if you are having that big of an issue

Kid's socializing..............parents aren't paranoid, kids have been socializing outside of school, where they have been well before covid ever hit

Kids should be in school(oh and wait for it, most are, for a long time now!) but any proper parents have had their kids involved socially outside of school well before covid and except for the initial beginning of the pandemic, the kids have been keeping up with their normal social schedules of sports, etc.....

Idk where you get Fox News from, because I don't watch anything from it.

About the difference in breathing. It's not difficult as nearly impossible. It's just less likely to get the full potential. Something blocking your nose and mouth, even justa little, might have some long term effects. Especially double masked or with those tight masks.

About having an issue with it. It's more or less a suggestion.

The situation about kids socializing, I meant ONLY during Covid. During Covid, parents are paranoid to let their kids outside. They'd rather keep them inside the house or else they will kill grandma and grandpa (the only thing I believe about Covid).

Some parents see the problem and send their kids back, but a majority still doesn't. At least in Thailand. Idk about other places currently. But during Covid, kids didn't get the attention and social needs that will reach what they actually need. There was no chance for them either because whatever was an outside activity, was closed during Covid. The only distraction for kids during Covid was something like TikTok. Great for their mental health! Instagram, great for their self esteem! Twitter, great for their confidence not being able to express their point without being kicked out.

For sure, we'd all breath better maskless

Masks don't bother me at all, and I will continue to wear them well after covid. Planes is an example.

But I would prefer not to, I don't wear a mask outside.

As for kids socializing, I was talking about my experience in North America, sorry. So we weren't comparing the same issue..........

And it is different than in Thailand..............where kids don't have much of a social life outside of school, even pre-covid.

So it would be more of an issue in Thailand for kids, I do agree with you

I've always felt Thailand is severely lacking in social ventures for kids.............

Maybe a bit more  critical thinking and you'd realise just how absurdly contradictory what you write is  - not just the opposite to reality but the opposite to what you're saying yourself, from one line to the next:

"How much of not going to school and 'studying' online takes part in that?"

If you'd read the articles, or just scanned them, you wouldn't need to ask.

But you didn't.

"Being forced inside, not socializing, being on their phone/laptop all day."

Kids around me spend less time "inside" than they do when at school - they're out with their parents / grandparents or in groups while they're parents are at work.

They're certainly not "on their phone / laptop all day" - I thought you were a teacher for some reason, but obviously I've got that wrong or you'd know.

"They just point to Covid to take the chance to make it appear worse."

Kids do?

The only ones around here who want to "make it appear worse" are the ones who don't want to go back to school where they'll be "forced inside"!

"How much of wearing a mask the majority of the day takes part in this?"

How can it play a part if what you've just said is true?

If, as you've just claimed, they're "forced inside" at home all day, "not socializing", etc, then they're not going to be "wearing a mask the majority of the day" are they?

Not much critical thinking going on there!

"It's not healthy at all not to fully breathe in and out. Especially for a long time. Plus a part of what you breathe out, gets back in, so that's not a complete breathe of oxygen. The tighter they put them, the worse it get."

But even if that's true, again you've just said that they're "forced inside" at home all day, "not socializing", etc - so which is it?

"How much of the 2 year long fear porn, depression, loneliness and traumas in people have taken part in this?"

Well, if you'd read the articles or anything about this you'd have a better idea  -  but you haven't, so you don't.

"Thanks to fear mongers like you and the news, they were almost certain they were gonna die."

Really?

Who was "almost certain they were gonna die"?

The mobs clamouring that they wanted to be vaccinated, or the ones going up country to hide in the caves?

I must have missed them!

"What does that do to a brain? We are talking about being bombarded with this for 2 years to people who actually believe it."

Judging not only from the reports, but from those around here and those widely reported on across Thailand, very little at all. I must have missed the terrified crowds besieging the hospitals and putting up their tents off-grid in the jungle.

"Showing a bunch of articles about the same topic has as much effect on me as showing just 1 article. It doesn't add anything else other than you trying to shut someone up with a different opinion."

I was trying to give you a selection, from the technical to the tabloid, and a range of views so you could maybe learn something from different informed opinions - evidently a mistake.

"Try critical thinking for a change instead of copying the 'experts'. "

"Critical thinking" is about being better informed and weighing up the evidence.  Ignoring that evidence isn't critical thinking - it's just ignorance.

Either they're one or the other, or they're somewhere in-between, but what it's clearly impossible for them to be is both 😂!

See above - either they're at home and glued to social media all day alone or they're outside socialising and double masked unable to breathe all day.

Or - shock, horror - is it actually something in-between 😂?

"Critical thinking" is about being better informed and weighing up the evidence.  Ignoring that evidence isn't critical thinking - it's just ignorance.

You take all the questions as if they count for every single person simultaneously. I know the way you're thinking. You really do your best not to get the point.

Every question asked is a separate issue that also could have an effect on everybody's mental health. That's why I asked the questions as 'How much of this or that takes part in the problems that are appearing for some'. Maybe some of the points I made, wouldn't count for some people, and for others several of the questions asked might play a role in it.

The last part, about critical thinking, starting 90% of your posts as No/Not true/completely wrong/etc, doesn't make you look like you're accepting anyone's point of view, everybody is wrong except Stonker.

I took a look at the links you have sent, I didn't continue because it's only point was: Covid did this. So I only gave some other options. For you the answer is clear, Covid did this, and that's the only thing possible. All points made by others that are against yours are instantly wrong, and you start from there and write some post about how it's all wrong. In my case, many times you misunderstood my posts, or did your best to misunderstand them.

You can't really call that critical thinking.

Btw,

"Judging not only from the reports, but from those around here and those widely reported on across Thailand, very little at all. I must have missed the terrified crowds besieging the hospitals and putting up their tents off-grid in the jungle."

I can still remember having an argument with you on this where I said I didn't believe that people were lying in the streets and lining up at hospitals. YOU were the one telling everyone how my post was fake news just because it wasn't happening in my area. Guess I was the one who turned out to be right here in the end.

Being bombarded with terrifying news 24/7 for 2 years straight definitely has an impact on a lot of people. Just look at Omicron, come on. Everyone who doesn't think for themselves got scared of it, while it was just a very mild flu.

You are the evidence that being bombarded with terrifying news has an impact on people who just follow without thinking for themselves.

Besides that, it's not only being scared. People might be done with the whole situation. But the news is not done with them. It keeps poking them, and people get tired of it. Quarantines, lockdowns, not being able to see family, friends, etc. Hearing this for 2 years straight on the news might make people depressed.

Make no mistake, whatever I've seen on TV is not what I see in real life. Real life is actually pretty free. But there are people like you who are constantly afraid of Covid, while the news keeps telling them to be afraid. I'm talking about some of those people who might have some mental issues after this whole situation. At one point everyone can break mentally. The only question is when. Keep scaring the shit out of people is certainly a way to accomplish that.

Schools are open, but parents still keep their kids at home. Are you a teacher? Do you personally have exprience with keeping count on who comes to school or not?

From a post a while back, you said you weren't, so I'd keep quiet on this one if I were you.

I might be wrong about other places, but where I live, schools have just opened, with many regulations to keep parents scared of sending their kid to school. Because of this, students will study online and use phone/computer all day. And a huge amount doesn't use it for studying.

Agreed, they're 'separate issues', but you can't have it both ways - either kids are forced to stay at home, etc, or they're forced to mask up all day. It can't be both as that's impossible and the reality is that it's neither.

Simply untrue on all counts, but a good 'BoZo'-type reply when you can't justify anything you're saying.

FWIW I agree with many here, and I changed my mind completely on post-infection immunity after reading an article linked to by @BlueSphinx, who I've probably disagreed with more strongly than anyone here.

Maybe you've had 'brain fog'. At that time there were people 'lying in the streets and lining up at hospitals' and it was widely reported in all the Thai and English language mainstream news media!

So everyone who thinks for themselves thinks  Omicron is just a very mild flu?

Maybe they need to 'think' a bit more, since while the Omicron fatality rate's lower than Delta it's far more infectious, gives very little immunity from re-infection, and is killing and hospitalising just as many people in the West as were dying and hospitalised for most of last year and that's far more than any 'very mild flu' 😂!

Do I really need to give links to worldometers and statista yet again, for you to ignore?

But there are people like you who are constantly afraid of Covid,

I don't know where you get this idea from that anyone who disagrees with you, wants to continue mask wearing, etc, does so because they're "scared" or "constantly afraid of Covid".

I'm sure that applies to many people who are clinically extremely vulnerable and who'd prefer not to die prematurely - a quarter of the 4 million shielding in the UK continued doing so even after over a year when shielding ended - but all those I know do so because they want to protect others. Children want to protect grandparents, parents want to protect children, people want to protect the community, etc.

For my part, I've lost a brother to Covid, and a sister-in-law is currently in hospital with it, but I'm not particularly 'scared' of it any more than anything else - I've been shot, bombed and blown up, I've had cancer, mildly, and my bucket list is empty. That doesn't mean I'd be happy to peg out tomorrow, but it doesn't mean I'm in hiding 'scared' - apart from masking up  my life is pretty well exactly as it was a couple of years ago, and out of respect for others I'm happy to go along with what they want despite the minor inconvenience.

Schools are open, but parents still keep their kids at home. Are you a teacher? Do you personally have exprience with keeping count on who comes to school or not?

No, definitely not a teacher, but I pass five local schools at 'flag raising' nearly every morning and have done for several years so I think that gives me a fair idea of the numbers locally 😂!
