The surface and knee-jerk paranoia and institutionalism continues on in it's usual manner.

Same as it ever was.

The reference to post #152942 is quite apt.

Nothing up their sleeves.

What if I have family or friends coming over? Do they still have to go to a hotel for those 2 days?

The same as any Thais "coming over" - yes.

My wife is Thai and she

We booked her flight for Apr 2nd

No whining and moaning that she has to do the 5th day T&G

She doesn't love it, but wants to go home.........so is just doing it

She isn't acting entitled like all these tourists, even though it's her own country

Actually, I haven't heard any Thai be up and arms like people on here

And some of them did the 14 day quarantine

We know about 20 Thais heading home close to Songkran.........not one peep of outrage

With the combined tests and the extra hotel fees for 2 nights the cost is well over 30 000 baht.

Then if you test asymptomatic.....

I think the mayor consquence is if you test +ve on the 5th day test   if you are a tourist on your 2, 3,  4 week tripthe it is screwed in more ways then one.  then there is always the risk for the pre departure test.  Not sure if I would be visiting as a tourist but back this month via the sb.   I assume thise who are "outraged" are those who would complain about the thai food being too spicy :)

All those Thais I spoke about are going back to Thailand for visits

I don't love the 5th day, who does?

But I will never get the outrage

Go or don't go

It's not your country (I don't mean you personally)

Nor I from any Thais.

A Thai friend of ours from Australia had to do the full 14 days quarantined in a hotel last year when she came to see and take her turn taking care of her aging father, followed by another 14 days in Australia when she went back, and she never even mentioned it apart from when asked, nor have any others I know who've done similar.

And to be fair, it's not only Thais.

A farang friend of mine who was unfortunate enough to be on a flight that had already taken off from UK when Thailand closed the borders and airports early last year, so he had to fly back to the UK on the same flight,  had to buy an 'Elite' visa as that was the only way he could come back here at the time to see his stepson, followed by 14 days in quarantine.

He wasn't happy, but he accepted it and didn't complain.

I have family arriving 6 people into Phuket from France. I am totally scandalized by the cost of the Covid tests on Day 1 and Day  5 : BAHT 4 400 PER PERSON!  For a party of 6 that is baht 26 400!!!

We all love Thailand, but how about the Government and press doing something to lower these costs which are amongst the highest in the world!

I booked psas three days ago: 4200 for the 2 tests, first at the hospital, second on day 5 at the place you chose. For me that is Central Floresta, been there in December, it is hygienic and close to where I stay.
Booking the hotels, especially on day 5, is the worst for me, as I rent a house that I can't use for quarantaine
