As infections continue to decline in Thailand, the government meets tomorrow to discuss the easing of a number of restrictions. The CCSA is also expected to lower the country’s Covid alert, from Level 4 to 3. It was raised earlier this month amid concerns over the highly-contagious Omicron variant. The move followed the suspension of the Test & Go entry scheme, but that could potentially make a comeback as early as next month, according to a Bangkok Post report. Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul says the government is considering relaxing some measures and potentially expanding Thailand’s sandbox programme to other destinations. […]

'Pattaya' and 'screwed'  in the same sentence. Very apt.

Things will change. Are they the same now as 1 year ago? 6 months ago?

The world is taking in possibly the last COVID wave (omicron) and preparing for reopening.

Expect good news. 2022 could be the year we go back to something close to normal. :-)

looks like more of the same coming again!!dropping the needless hotel booking and insurance  would be a hugh boost!as most tourtist have insurance already, its just the govt wont accept it.so many are looking at the cost of rebuying  another insurance.and the testing could be set up at airport.no need for the one night booking.any changes would have been great back in nov for high season, now thats gone by.i gave up on coming after three tries and booking flights.so hope oct 2022 is better.chock dee to all.

Agreed, @Vince - how so?

It's up for a Sandbox just like Chiang Mai and others, however absurd it may be to think either can be 'sandboxed'.

Pity Thailand has no “level 4 alert” for the 25k Road death annual carnage, mostly very young adults, Thailands future. Nothing effective ever done.

Covid deaths here since April 2021 Delta arrival are 22k, (before that 100!) nearly all very old / very unfit. Thailands Past & 0.03% total pop. , 99.97% survival rate.

but wait, Covid deaths of these very few walking dead are considered FAR more important than the tragic unabated road butchery of youth here, so instead of isolating / protecting the Covid- vulnerable, let’s restrict & suffocate the entire society & tourist economy, tipping five million here back into abject Poverty, lost GDP tens of billions US$,

Right, makes sense, got it now.human irrational mass hysteria at its finest.

I just don't get how TAT sees sandboxes as the great savior of tourism (feels more like a scheme to fleece unsuspecting tourist - with prices and destinations geared to simply increase revenue - eventually tourist will get wise and reject travel under these schemes). TAT had best start focusing on how to make destinations attractive and not just available.

At this point, test-and-go (TnG) should be the only remaining restriction (at least until the latest covid spike in the West passes), then just get back to business as usual. Visa exempt for 30 days, etc.

However, it does seem like the fact field hospitals are now filling up (albeit with mild cases) is counterintuitive to their desire to reinstate TnG. THA has a short memory... It was early in the pandemic when everyone thought THA dodged a bullet to only get hammered in August. Something that could just as easily happen again with omicron now spiking in the West and THA thinking the worst has passed.

You are absolutely right. Sadly it's not just Thailand that doesn't manage road injuries and deaths well. Many countries just put up with avoidable tragedy and economic loss.

It would be great if Thailand were a leader in road safety.
