The government plans to cut the budget for its tour package subsidy scheme, which received a lukewarm reception among Thais. According to a Bangkok Post report, the Tourism & Sports Ministry will also reduce the number of tour packages available from 1 million to 200,000. They are devoid of ideas so continue to flog a dead horse. Dont TAT etc read the indebtedness figures for Thai people? At a time when household debt is at a decades high there is no way that domestic tourism is on the agenda except for the privileged few, so offering a discount that requires expenditure is an utter waste of time. And anyway the fact that most places of entertainment are closed makes this country like a giant graveyard, not an interesting place to visit.

Agreed - absolutely barmy. To get the subsidy you have to spend money, just like the other subsidies.

Yes, tourism needs support but most Thais don't want to travel and aren't popular when they do.

Reinstating Test and Go would also be a positive move, but having cancelled the last one it's a case of "Once bitten...twice shy". International tourists who follow news in Thailand, know that the testing regimen is low. omicron could be huge right now, but without proper testing, no one really knows....
