It's amusing in a sad way to see how phrases like "temporary", "1-3% < 7%", "the big picture" and "short-term" were thrown in. The amusement stems from the obviousness of the obfuscation, the sadness from reality.

So you are hungry because you cannot afford eggs, pork or chicken! Well never mind it is only for a few months and you need to lose some weight anyway. So look on the bright side, you might go to bed hungry but in the long term you will thank the government because you will be slimmer more attractive person who can fit into those old clothes that you also cannot afford to replace. So said by Jabba the Hut as he dined on the finest foods.

And to be expected, Covid is the convenient conduit to blame and use for most every issue and problem that arises or fabricated - as witnessed the world over for the last two years.

Bullsh.....  Prices of food are rising worldwide. We will be in a worldwide economic crisis like in the eighties or the banking crisis and maybe even worse.

Supattanapong also urged the public to focus on the big picture together with the world economic situation, not only focus on the Thai situation.

Nothing wrong with where they are focussed, putting food on the table can be very focussing, particularly when you are broke too.

That is their big picture and as for the world economics, they don't know or care what that is.

The world particularly the USA has gone on a deficit spending spree.  When you create currency out of thin air it erodes the value of the currency.  So prices go up to adjust.  The biggest single factor is oil.  Here again, the USA which once was a huge exporter of oil had a change in administrations and instead of encouraging production, discouraged it.  That help drive the price of oil from as low as $16 USD per barrel to now over $84 per barrel. Every product made from petroleum is impacted by the over 525% increase in price.  Then you have the farmers, truckers, and cargo ships all having to pay far more in fuel prices to get the products to market.

Temporary?  There may be some relief if oil prices moderate.  However prices tend to rise very quickly in response to higher costs.  They go down slowly as sellers are reluctant to share the gains of paying less but still charging the same.

What I do find amazing here in Thailand is the speed that the price-hikes occurred on Chicken, eggs, tomatoes, & possibly some other protein staples (not forgeting gas prices) that folk buy/eat everyday... ALL on the back of the 55% hike of pork.. All within a 2 week window...Again, pure greed, thus allowing other food basics to shoot up in price!

I am really shocked that the cooking oil moguls have not jumped on this bandwagon (yet).

The state of things here for the poorest members of this nation must be getting quite dire now..

(What was the famous statement from Marie Antionette upon hearing the peasants had no bread to eat/survive on...?  "Let them eat cake")      Similarities..???
