  3. No it isn't. It's only for those who have been fully vaccinated in Thailand, excluding all Thais and expats vaccinated abroad and all tourists, making the system unworkable. Attempting to include all those who've had Covid would make the system even more unworkable as recently not all have been hospitalised or even tested but they've been put into Covid Care Centres instead without being tested. Until far more have been vaccinated it's just an invitation for businesses to open and ignore it.

  4. The brief answer is no. Social Security needs to be informed about your death. Any payments sent after will need to be sent back. Social Security decides what benefits a surviving spouse or any other family member may receive. You need to get in touch with them to clarify your wifes situation. When a Social Security beneficiary dies, his or her surviving spouse is eligible for survivor benefits. A surviving spouse can collect 100 percent of the late spouse’s benefit if the survivor has reached full retirement age, but the amount will be lower if the deceased spouse claimed benefits before he or she reached full retirement age. (Full retirement age for survivor benefits differs from that for retirement and spousal benefits; it is currently 66 but will gradually increase to 67 over the next several years.) If you were already receiving spousal benefits on the deceased’s work record, Social Security will in most cases switch you automatically to survivor benefits when the death is reported. Otherwise, you will need to apply for survivor benefits by phone at 800-772-1213 or in person at your local Social Security office. [Editor’s note: Local Social Security offices are currently closed to walk-in visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many Social Security services are available online and by phone. If you have a "dire need situation" regarding your benefits or need to update information attached to your Social Security number, such as your name or citizenship status, you may be able to schedule an in-person appointment. See Social Security's coronavirus page or call your local office for more information.] In most cases, a widow or widower qualifies for survivor benefits if he or she is at least 60 and had been married to the deceased for at least nine months at the time of death. But there are a few exceptions to those requirements: If the late beneficiary’s death was accidental or occurred in the line of U.S. military duty, there’s no length-of-marriage requirement. You can apply for survivor benefits as early as age 50 if you are disabled and the disability occurred within seven years of your spouse’s death. If you are caring for children from the marriage who are under 16 or disabled, you can apply at any age. Whether you have wed again can also affect eligibility. If the remarriage took place before you turned 60 (50 if you are disabled), you cannot draw survivor benefits. You regain eligibility if that marriage ends. And there is no effect on eligibility for survivor benefits if you remarry at or past 60 (50 if disabled). The survivor benefit is generally calculated on the benefit your late spouse was receiving from Social Security at the time of death (or was entitled to receive, based on age and earnings history, if he or she had not yet claimed benefits). The actual amount of your payment will differ according to your age and family circumstance: As noted above, if you have reached full retirement age, you get 100 percent of the benefit your spouse was (or would have been) collecting. If you claim survivor benefits between age 60 and your full retirement age, you will receive between 71.5 percent and 99 percent of the deceased’s benefit. The percentage gets higher the older you are when you claim. If you claim in your 50s as a disabled spouse, the survivor benefit is 71.5 percent of your late spouse's benefit. If you apply on the basis of caring for a child who is under 16 or disabled, you can collect 75 percent of the late spouse’s benefit, regardless of your age. Keep in mind You will not receive a survivor benefit in addition to your own retirement benefit; Social Security will pay the higher of the two amounts. If you are the divorced former spouse of a deceased Social Security recipient, you might qualify for survivor benefits on his or her work record. If you are below full retirement age and still working, your survivor benefit could be affected by Social Security's earnings limit. It does not matter whether a surviving spouse worked long enough to qualify for Social Security on his or her own. He or she can still collect benefits on the deceased spouse’s work record.

  5. My wife loves 'meal in a bowl' type dishes, which include: tom yum koong or mu; turmeric chicken soup; kang som; and many others usually with my home-made chicken broth or pork bones. We both enjoy cooking and 3 meals I regularly prepare are:- Philippine spicy pork, Chicken parmigiana, and Beer-can BBQ chicken > The PI pork dish is one I developed, happy to share recipe if requested, can post here. The amazing thing about the chook is not just the beautiful tender meat and crispy skin, but we get up to 6 meals out of the 100 bt chicken (1.6kg, from Makro). Plus stock made from bones and skin.

  6. Hi everyone, let’s start a cooking thread for posting the pictures of the dishes we like to cook. And maybe add some advice or information about the dish. So we can share information and help each other :) I will start: I like to cook Gai pad med mamuang (chicken cashew). I add 15 chilis and make the chicken pieces a little bigger, soak first. Sometimes I can’t get the texture of the red peppers right. But nice!

  7. Hi John, I'm assuming your of Spanish nationality and applying at the Thai Embassy. Madrid. Having checked their website they only offer the Non Imm O Visa for the purpose of voluntary work and Thai family/spouse. For the reason of retirement, they only offer the Non Imm O-A Visa with all it's catches. No problem, there is another way around this. I recommend you apply for a Tourist Visa. On entry you'll be permitted to stay for 60 days, which you can extend for a further 30 days if required. $100,000 Covid Insurance only required to cover 60 days. You can apply to change the status of your Tourist Visa to a Non O at your local Thai Immigration office in Thailand as a prelude to applying for a 1 year extension based on retirement. You will need to open a Thai bank account in your sole name and deposit 800K THB in it within 4 - 6 weeks of arrival. You must have at least 15 days (23 days at certain offices) left on your permission of stay to apply to change the status of your Visa to Non O. Apologies just re-read you already have the 800K in a Thai bank account. Procedure for applying for change of Visa status to Non O based retirement here: VE-TV to Non O Retirement.pdf

  9. 70% having 2 jabs is setting the bar far too low, especially because of Delta being dominant and Sinovac being used. Also, 2 jabs is no longer the accepted rule as the antibody levels (obtained after vaccines from February/March/April) have already waned. These people are no longer sufficiently protected, so you can't include them in the percentage until they are boosted. Plus, you need to allow 2-3 weeks after reaching the percentage until reaching reasonable effectiveness as well. So, the high season will be as good as over. Plus, I wouldn't call it high season as 1) we're red-listed (and even if that was lifted in the coming months, people will have already made other plans by then), 2) the high season was in decline for years even before Covid. If we open the country it is mainly for the Thai internal tourist market and only for a small part for foreigners. TAT's numbers have on each occasion been ludicrously overstated and proven wrong. Let's get to 75% effective jabs first (so including boosters for the ones who were vaccinated earliest) and hold-off a few weeks after that. Then open the country for everyone. That will instill confidence and this approach will also convince foreign governments to remove Thailand from their red-list.

  10. One more last thing to say before I am out : I think we all agree that there are too many soi dogs in Thailand . Right ? I still think the best approach to that problem is what Soi dog are doing . Not killing them but neutering . Imagine every dog hater would have the right to shoot as many stray dogs as he can ... would be a very insecure place here , for the dogs and for the people . Try to think positive , if you are annoyed by something that you cannot change , it is better to change yourself . Learn to live with it . If you cannot , move away . One more thing about hate : you have to let it out , ( better in a reasonable way ) , on a forum for example . Otherwise it will cause a cancer to develop and kill you . So , a forum like this one can be good for your ( mental ) health . and make you live longer ... but you should always focus on finding what is positive first . There is nearly always something ...

  12. The problem , as always , is that people ave a tendency to generalize . Soi dogs are ... people are ... that is simple thinking that does not fit individual cases as this one with the poisoned puppies ... People are not the same , there are ' good ' ones , or ' bad ' ones , nice ones , ugly ones , intelligent ones , stupid ones ... The same goes for dogs . The big difference is that dogs ( animals ) cannot complain about mistreatment . They have no voice to be heard by most humans . They just suffer in silence . We rescued a dying soi dog who was a living skeleton covered with open wounds . Now , after 6 month , ( and a lot of treatments ) , he became a pretty boy . His body is healthy now , but he still is deeply traumatized by what he's gone through . He does not let anybody come near , he is too scared by people . He never had a positive experience in his life , he only suffered . At least that came to an end by now . What I got from saving his life ? A good feeling .

  13. The above post in my humble opinion is the number one post of the week. Very well put and very accurate, dogs are fantastic support animals. My dogs certainly help me get through the day, sitting here alone every day with only my computer, and my dogs. Now all you dog haters, please note Bluesofa was here, came in 1 piece, left in 1 piece, yes when he arrived at the gate, the dogs barked, but when they realized he was a welcome visitor, they stopped.

  17. Why can not Thai men, or even other men just walk away, cut your losses and move on as there are plenty of fish in the sea. To end someone's life and then destroy your own and your families shows you have not progressed into true adulthood and are just a manchild. Same goes for those that play around and then when caught blame the other person instead of admitting their own faults. If the wife is cheating and playing around, then you kick them to the curb much like I did, and walk away happy knowing that your problems are now someone else's.

  18. Very judgemental there, William. How about Italian food before pasta and tomatoes were introduced from China and South America? What about Thai food before chillis from Mexico or lime from the Middle East? How about British "cuisine" before the introduction of the potato a few centuries ago? A world before fish and chips. Could you even imagine? Cuisines, "as it should be", blend and meld and develop, pulling the best from everywhere to make something new. Open your eyes and appreciate the creativity being shown instead of showing off that you can go down to a local pub and are creative enough to buy a pizza and beer (originally from what is now Iran).

  19. I am with you on that one , Colin . Thank you . To all the dog haters here , ( seem to be the majority ) , I can only say : If you do not like to see any more dogs for whatever reason , why do you not help ( donate ) Soi Dog org.? https://www.soidog.org/ They do a very good job . Over 604000 animals on Thai streets have been neutered by them already . They do something good . And what do you moaners do ? Moaning , that is all . Worthless , but , at least , it shows a very limited mind . My old dog was poisoned without a reason in a thai beach restaurant , it died a slow and very painful death while I've been holding it in my arms . Surrounded by a crowd of staring ( some smiling ) Thais , that made the ' attraction of the day ' for some . I will never forget this . If I ever see somebody poison a dog , there will be a bloody fight . I hate these people . I want them to eat their own poison that they find out how it is to die like this . Shame on them and all the ugly ' talkers ' who do nothing but complaining . What side are you on ? A nice person that still has the ability to show some empathy to mistreated and suffering creatures ? Or just a hate spreading worthless ' keyboard warrior ' ? ( Ok , the aggressive dogs are a different story , but most have been made aggressive by humans actions ...) . They need to be treated with care , but not with poison . All dogs when still puppies are lovely and not aggressive , but continued suffering and mistreatment by humans makes them become aggressive in some cases . Not their fault that they were born in a world like this . That is why I donate to Soi Dog every month , because they , at least , do something . Have a nice day .

  20. other people clearing up your mess you make, ever thought of that? only reason they bite and i saw it many times is because some idiot kick them for no reason... leave them be and they do not do anything, you got some left overs or bones give them that and a dig is your friend for life everyone knows that, it is not their fault that some idiot left them on the street or does not take them to their home... when they small people like them and when they bigger they kick them out. either way i never call any animal a live stock... i love animals from small to big only 1 thing i kill, is a mosquito, simply because i ave had already 3 times dengue fever :)... i do not think anybody has the right to DESTROY a life because it does not fit in their daily life. but then again humans destroy everything anyway that is how we are....

  21. I would not entirely agree. Many dogs will remain loyal to a person or household even if starving strangely enough. They will run off if physically abused though. Many soi dogs are truly "feral" as in they are from litters born in some quiet spot even in a city but because they are in close contact with people from day one they are not all necessarily/automatically vicious, just cautiously defensive due to the unpredictable attitude of the public. Of course it would be best if they were not there at all but unfortunately Thailand continues to ignore the issue on any realistic basis due to ?????

  22. So because you happen to have a disabled person living at the property you consider it acceptable that anybody walking in the area of your property after dark can be harassed by your dog's. No I don't understand the logic. Taking your justifications a bit further,if a child happens to walk by your property after dark and your dog harasses the child that is perfectly ok because you have a disabled person living on the property and the child may have been an intruder.

  26. you're in dreamland - if they reopened "all nightlife and entertainment venues" right now, with most people not being vaccinated, that would be a recipe for disaster and put everything back. Let's be honest: you're calling for bars and massage parlours to be allowed to reopen. Close personal contact is exactly what those places do. Crazy, reckless suggestion imo - but I agree with the rest of the post. Foreigners aren't daft and will find easier places to visit closer to home. In fact, you can forget 99% of Brits going to Thailand until they remove it from its red list

  27. Takes min of 2L of carton wine for 1 gallon, some say you can do with 1L but that's a very weak wine, i make 8L with 3 or maybe 4L of carton juice but remember sugar you use adds volume to the mixture to. As for the weather here it plays havoc with my fermentation, yeasts can ferment up to about 35c but temps here are more than often in the high 30's, i can use a/c but that's expensive running all day so best i can do is put a fan on full all day and turn off night time. Normally fermentation is done in 3 weeks in cooler places but here it can finish in 6 to 12 days. That's a good video explains a lot.

  30. Yes i do need and enjoy the power of my canine guards, if you knew my situation, you would possibly understand. As a paraplegic unable to move unless in my chair, live here with only my wife, who sometimes is away over night with her job, which means i am stuck on my bed alone. Now one time my wife was away over night, we had an intruder, who was trying the doors on our pickup, trying the kitchen door, storeroom door. I only had 1 dog then, and the bar steward kicked my dog hard, she was only 7 months old at the time. I called the police, was told not worry police come now, ha, that was nearly 3 years ago, still waiting for the police to turn up. So yes my dogs are there as protection for me, and they do a damned good job of it.

  31. I contacted Jamago directly about the dilution of water to 1L of grape concentrate, this is the email from them. Thank you for the interest in our product. The original mix would be 1 liter concentrate to 3 liters of water + 220 gram white sugar. You can experiment with different ratios until you find your desired taste. It is possible to max out the ratio to 1:8 with sugar addition. 1:3 would give you 4L or 1 gallon. Maybe seem a little expensive but if you can dilute to 1:8 it would be a great option for making a top homemade wine with concentrate from the grape type that makes famous wines, so i will try this out early next year with 1L of the CABERNET SAUVIGNON and SAUVIGNON BLANC and use 1:7 mix dilution = to 8L + 700g of sugar, see how it goes. It would be worth the 600B if it works, yes I'm excited about this experiment now.

  33. It is possible, i have 1 dog that used to bark at night, at other dogs outside our gate, or people walking past. Now i bought a muzzle, she got the muzzle on every night for a few months, now no muzzle, no barking. If my dogs bark at night, that means danger, somebody up to no good, as recently happened, dogs kicked off, who ever was outside left, next morning wife gets a phone call, her uncles home about 120 meters away, had a few items stolen, they have no dogs, no lights, no security.

  38. And to the ones who like to tell how to poison a dog ( Coolant etc ) , you better be careful . Poisoning dogs is against the law in Thailand . ( Bravo Thailand ! ) If you ever decide to do something that is forbidden by law . you take the risk of being punished accordingly . I would surely help that this happens if I ever witness such behavior .

  41. Roads in Thailand are deceptively dreadful. There are 2 aspects - road design and construction, and traffic engineering. The "safe System' of road stay involves addressing 5 aspects of road safety Engineering - that's both vehicles and roads Education - Drivers of course but not just driving tests Enforcement - this requires major reform of the police and legal system Emergency - There is NO CENTRALIE EMERGENCY or ambulance service in Thailand Evaluation - This sis vitally important and Thailand does almost nothing - it inc;udes on site scientific measurement of EVERY accident, I t also involves proper collection and collation of statistics. Thailand doesn't even collect full sets in internationally recognised categories. Until ALL of this is addressed there will be no significant improvement Roads - As for construction the new roads being built are mostly death traps - they use poor quality materials, and infrastructure and encourage high speeds - there were only about 250 km of real motorway in the entire country - over roads are just "speedway". Now they have introduced a new 120 limit on many roads - the result of this won't be apparent until a year or so after Covid. As for traffic engineering this is the positioning of signage and design of such things as lans=es and junctions.....in Europe people are totally unaware of the massive amount of research and science goes into this before it is carried out - in Thailand it appears to be scrawled in crayon on the back of a napkin.. road safety involves the "safe system" - this has been used for the past few decades in Europe and has Brough death rates per 100k down to single figures - the aim is ZERO - Thailand has persistently avoided tis - even though both Thai and ASEAN road safety bodies have advised this - until this happens there will be no significant reduction in the death toll in the foreseeable future.

When seeing a dog in that situation, get salt/ water, or baking soda/ water, i use a BIG syringe, get the dog force the solution down the dogs throat, dog will throw up, dog will then lie down for 2/3 hours, then slowly regain its strength. Before anybody starts, yes it does work, i have saved my dogs on 3 different occasions
