  1. So much could have, and should have been done to avoid this, prevent this, and mitigate this. And now that the shutdowns have proven to be nearly useless, let the people get back to work, and stop inflicting punishment upon them. It is to the point to being sadistic. We have no idea of the extent of the homelessness, at this time, but there is no doubt the lying, deceptive, deceitful authorities are trying to hide this from us, the media is being threatened if they reveal it, and as always, a false veneer is being used to obscure the truth, to fake reality. Millions are out of work right now, and the stingy ones are not doing anything meaningful to help.

  3. No way they should simply open up. It as you rightly point out become another India. But equally there has been a half baked, half hearted attempt at a lockdown. Tim Newton (tongue in cheek) avoids using the 'L' word. A seriously robust lockdown is the realistic solution (along with a radical roll out of vaccinations) in an attempt to get these figures reduced.

  4. Sure, and the virus will spread even faster, and swamp the hospitals with sick people, and the health care system will collapse and the morgues will be overflowing with corpses and the orphanges filled with children whose parents were killed by Covid. Not to mention the tourists aren't coming back while Covid is churning through the population. A lockdown causes hardship and suffering but it can bring the virus under control and save lives (if it is done right).

  8. I saw an image of a farmer working in his field, with his father, wearing a mask. Out in the open, working meters away from someone he shares a home with. This is a good indication of how scared the people are, and how successful the authorities have been with regard to instilling an overly toxic level of fear into the hearts and minds of the people. What could possibly be more insane, and less science based behavior, than wearing a mask out on a farm with no people around? I saw another guy the other day driving his car with a mask on. Nobody in the car with him. Huh? This is not Bubonic plague. This is Covid. Yet, one would think this is the Zombie Apocalypse and the end of the world.

  9. I agree about the millions not doing much to help - I see Thaiger and others doing fund raising, but not a lot of the Thai billionaires giving back when most needed. But I dont agree about just opening it all up. No yet. That could result in a situation like in India where a massive increase in daily cases totally overloaded the medical system and about 300K died in 3-4 months.

  10. Oi, that'll be .33% each now ? I love a challenge and took on a company turn-around in the late 90's. It was a boat hire business and the absentee owner had a succession of managers run it into the ground ... the waterfront site was actually worth more than the business including stock. With the business well in the red I took over on provision of an open cheque-book partnership, his money backing my actions. I had it back in the black within 6 months just by culling expenses and deadwood staff. I then built a website and mailing database, embarked on fleet upgrades and new purchasing to build profit slowly over the balance of 12 months. TG should have been closed down, all management and staff let go, then it could have been revived under a new board made up of aviation and tourism industry experts, Thai and farang, with someone like a Tony Fernandes as CEO. IMO the current process was doomed to fail even before covid's delta wave took hold. Selling aircraft and property assets will barely meet outgoings, if anything sells.

  11. Part of my work is to improve operating efficiencies of companies. I would simply love to do the same with Thai airways. I’d be prepared not to take a salary, simply take 1% of any Operational cost savings made. You could lose about 1 in 4 jobs and slash their real estate by around 60%. Restructuring of the management team would save millions and renegotiating employment contracts would save even more. So much low hanging fruit to cut out of a business like Thai. At the same time you would do a full end to end customer service review and return the company back to its fundamentals. I know why they haven’t achieved any of this this far. It’s simply because they keep bringing in teams who suffer with the same mindset. That’ll never work.

  12. "The TAT expects numbers to ramp up in the next 2 months" - It's not just a river in Egypt. The article itself points out the reservation number for August are half that of July. Other than blind hope what's the basis to expect an increase? As for total TAT numbers, they are now projecting a total of 100K tourists in the first three months (which in an of itself absurd to expect at this point). However in June that projection was 600K. In what world is getting a sixth of your original target a "success"? They also projected 15B baht revenue over three months, but only got 830M in month one. Clearly they must being expecting a windfall of spending in August and September. You might be able to argue the sandbox is a success at various levels. However it's a hard sell when it comes to actual number of tourist and spending, it's pretty much a failure.

  14. I live in, or more accurately near, a village which is in a similar position to yours but probably a few more steps further down the Covid line. We're a kilometre outside the village, but we get a pretty good handle on things not only there but in my partner's home village which is ten km's further up the hill, at the "end of the road", so we can get a reasonable perspective across three villages, and I cycle 30 kms every day so I also get a reasonable view of what people are up to outside. No farangs within a 10 km radius, and the nearest I know are over 600 kms away! Up until a month ago the only Covid cases anyone knew were about 30 kms away in a school, passed on from the nearby lottery wholesale market - we knew some of those tested. Vaccinations weren't even an option, as although the staff in the hospital had all been vaccinated and most of the government staff and their families, with the hospital used as a vaccination centre, the province has had virtually no vaccines so no-one's even been able to register for two months. Lottery sellers returning from other provinces were "encouraged" to self-quarantine outside the villages (in huts in the fields), or they just stopped coming back week-on / week-off. Despite that, a block of new nurses' accommodation was converted to a quarantine block for the district, isolating Covid cases that weren't serious. In the last month, though, things have changed. All three local villages have had Covid cases from "returnees" from other provinces and Bangkok, all of whom except one the villages and PYB (poo yai baan) knew about in advance - the one who tried to keep it quiet wasn't popular. Some of the others were brought back by converted mini-bus by the government programme to return those testing positive to be quarantined at home. My partner's home village can isolate itself as it's at the end of the road, so outsiders aren't welcome, but with no mains water and only a couple of small mini-marts they can hardly be self-sufficient. The quarantine block at the hospital is now full, so another one is quickly being converted. In less than a month it's become all too real for everyone.

If anyone can watch all the recent videos of literally thousands of illegals coming in daily and then immediately put on buses and planes and spread across the country thinks the gov't cares about covid is crazy. If this was the deadly pandemic they claim all these covid positive and unvaxxed migrants would NOT be allowed in and then spread across the country. 19. This is a picture of a portion of just the 25.000 people that Biden is allowing to enter the country "seeking asylum" The attorneys and counseling offices know that todays magic word is "asylum" Mind you many of these people crossed one or more countries on their route to the USA where they could have sought asylum from whatever persecution they claim. But no, they traveled to the USA where the benefits are better. Also, coming from a poor country is not a justification for asylum. If that were the case the substantial portion of the world would qualify for asylum. These people may not be formally educated but they know how to gimmick the system. What's more these people often come without any documentation as to their true identities, making finding criminal history on them impossible. What's more the tourist from Germany or the UK has to undergo Covid testing, and vaccination and present valid travel documents to enter. These people with no testing enter and are distributed throughout the USA virtually guaranteeing that Covid will continue to be spread. https://images.foxtv.com/static.fox5ny.com/www.fox5ny.com/content/uploads/2021/02/764/432/GettyImages-1230607957-e1613145531673.jpg?ve=1&tl=1

Virus's will win if vaccines are not found to defeat them, they may mutate and become immune to our current vaccines, but ultimately a vaccine will be found in the future that will defeat this TYPE of virus but new virus's will always continue to infect Humans long into the future especially man made one's. As for Your further remarks on being scared and remaining in lock down, masked up and the rest of us can take some extra D, Zinc, get more exercise, drop a few lbs and get back to life are completely uncalled for sad & offensive to say the least. 26. Sorry but lockdowns do work if they are properly implemented and the regulations are followed. It may be harsh in the short term but the alternative is increased numbers of both new cases and deaths and the virus continues it's deadly path ad infinitum.

  27. You going to pay all those people to stay locked down? You still want all the farmers, logistics people, critical infrastructure people keeping power, water and internet flowing locked down? Lockdowns don't work, after a year and half we know, virus gonna virus, it has done it everywhere. 160 people deaths today..from Covid with no other cause, or with Covid and most being elderly? It is time to stop living in fear and move on from this, yes it sucks for some but in the big scheme the numbers are staggeringly low.

  29. Over a year ago, I did a straight analytical numbers comparison between Thai Airways and both Qantas and Singapore airlines. I cannot remember the numbers but both Qantas and Singapore airlines had a similar per employee revenues and costs numbers, and their revenue to assets was also very similar. Thai Airways was way off the chart - massively over staffed and under capitalised. You are wrong about reducing numbers by 25% @Soidog - to get within a cooee of Qantas or Singapore, Thai Airways would have to reduce their staff by 60+% . That was at the 2018/19 revenue numbers - and those numbers aint coming back for a long time. I didn't have the time or care to do a staff structure analysis, but based on a quick look it was apparent that Thai Airways was just like the Thai military - unnecessarily full of senior management who do little more than PR work for a large salary. Their Chiefs to Indians ratio is way way way over the top. I also believe that the only reason they are doing this is because the bankruptcy deal included selling off assets to increase capital and reduce debt ratios.

  31. Totally agree with your comment. It would be perfectly possible to turn THAI around, make it profitable, and a showcase for Thailand itself. It's in prime position as the national airline of a top destination (at least pre covid). But the current dire situation won't last forever and people will return to travelling. But you'd have to be ruthless in removing the bloat. And there's no sign of that happening, just more of the same from dinosaurs with seemingly no desire to turn it around.

  38. And I appreciate your condescending arrogant attitude and incorrect assumption that I am confused or afraid in any way. Tells me all I need to know about you. It took me a while to get off the floor as I was laughing so hard. You said "No, we do not use "dead" cells from a virus to develop antibodies." You even mention "inactivated" cells ! I'm sorry, is it confusing to you that a cell that has been "killed" is a "dead" cell ? And I never said a virus was a "cell" or that it was alive. (There seems to be a lot of scientific debate on the matter of whether or not a virus is "alive" as outside of a host it is dormant, like a plant seed, but then becomes "alive" once it has invaded a host. Virologists can then take cells from the activated virus and "inactivate or kill" them in order to make a vaccine - from those "dead" cells.) From the CDC: "Inactivated vaccines also fight viruses and bacteria. These vaccines are made by inactivating, or killing, the germ during the process of making the vaccine. " https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/conversations/understanding-vacc-work.html From the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia: "Inactivate the virus Using this strategy, viruses are completely inactivated (or killed) with a chemical. By killing the virus, it cannot possibly reproduce itself or cause disease. The inactivated polio, hepatitis A, influenza (shot), and rabies vaccines are made this way. Because the virus is still "seen" by the body, cells of the immune system that protect against disease are generated." https://www.chop.edu/centers-programs/vaccine-education-center/making-vaccines/how-are-vaccines-made Note that I did not say that all vaccines were made that way either. Next. There are not "4,000 strains of Covid-19". There may be 4,000 types of Coronaviruses, but according to informed sources (like the CDC and the WHO) there are (currently) the 10 strains of Covid-19 that I listed previously. (And apparently a few "sub-strains" of those as well, but nowhere even close to a hundred in total, let alone 4,000.) They actually break them down into categories like "Variants of Concern" and "Variants of Interest". Sheesh - I even linked the CDC article that explained the different COVID-19 variants. (I tried just pasting the links in my previous post and that apparently didn't work so I'll use the "insert link" function instead.) https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/variants/variant-info.html This article also lists those same variants and a couple more under the heading "Alerts for Further Monitoring". https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/ The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has a list of 4 "Variants of Concern" as well as 4 "Variants of Interest" and another 22 listed as "Variants under monitoring" (and one listed as "De-escalated). That makes 31 Covid-19 variants. https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/variants-concern But hey, feel free to contact the CDC, the WHO, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and everyone else to tell them how they are all wrong ! Maybe when they learn they are wrong and you are right, they'll nominate you for the Nobel ! And no, I never said there was some secret plot to cover up anything. I was being sarcastic because, a week ago, the gov't announced a decree making it illegal to spread information that might "frighten" people. "It prohibits anyone from "reporting news or disseminating information that may frighten people or intentionally distorting information to cause a misundertstanding about the emergency situation, which may eventually affect state security, order or good morality of the people.” https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2156803/fearmongers-targeted-under-prayut-new-order Hmmm, kind of like how you distorted my post by making it seem like I was claiming that viruses were "cells" ? Meanwhile, I will get back to debunking BS that others like to post on different forums as that is turning from a leisurely hobby into a full time (unpaid) profession of late. (Pause to re-read post, have lunch, re-read linked articles.) At least this is more informative and entertaining that debunking all the "The election was stolen from Trump" posts and the "The covid virus is a hoax created by big pharma" posts I've commented on recently. Like this one: https://aseannow.com/topic/1226034-seriously-is-this-what-i-have-to-face-twice-to-be-vaccinated/?do=findComment&comment=16710884 Or this one:

  39. What winner will that be? The 99.8% of people who survive? What is everyone going to say a year from now if it turns out that the vaccines not only don't work as advertised but that you will need twice yearly boosters or rolling lockdowns? I really hope the nonstop fear porn covid response of TVF does not creep over to this forum. Anyone who is scared of Covid can stay locked down, masked up and the rest of us can take some extra D, Zinc, get more exercise, drop a few lbs and get back to life. The authoritarianism of the covid doomers is far more scary than the virus itself.

  40. Lockdowns work but only to a limited extent. When you have a virus as transmissable and one that mutates rapidly you are just stalling it will eventually make its way through the population. And it is doing just that now infecting previously vaccinated individuals. So while you lockdown what other harm are you doing? Well you are killing the livelihood of millions of people resulting in suicides and even starvation. Is not a better answer to simply lock down those with preconditions and the elderly? That is precisely what has been done in the past. Wake up folks.

  45. Yes I’m sure that’s right. The 25% in staff reduction was a finger in the air and knowing you could easily loose every fourth person without anything being noticed. I haven’t looked at the numbers at all, but if Thai is like any other large establishment in Thailand, then they will have many more than needed. Im not sure if Thai would even know what the productivity and utilisation of their staff is? Whatever the numbers, I don’t think I’ll get anywhere near having them chance to do this work, but it would be a pleasure to do so and fun to fantasise. 1% bonus payment in savings made would set me up for life.

  48. The customer service was evident before the Covid global crisis. I used to fly regularly with them until nearly 3 years ago. Everything about the company was going down the pan. As for selling properties, it's a buyers market and very few have monies just sloshing around. With the stock they currently have a good percentage is leased and they may well lose them and have to downsize. It's in danger of becoming Titanic Airways.
