Soi Dog Saturday Opening Tours – come and meet your future best friend

Last Saturday, May 5, Soi Dog Foundation welcomed Phuket’s media to visit the Gill Dalley’s Sanctuary located in Mai Khao. The day was held to promote the extended visitor times to allow weekday-work people to experience one of Phuket’s most popular attractions – meet and mingle with small dogs, cats and kittens.

The tour starts at 9.30-10.30am and led by bi-lingual (Thai and English) volunteer coordinators who show you around the sanctuary with dogs divided into different ‘runs’ by categorising them by their breeds, temperament, health and size (sort of a doggie triage).

There are ‘DMT’ dogs which are dogs saved from the dog meat trade living together but separated from the other dogs. These dogs are quite introvert and scared because of their abusive history. There are also old dogs run, teenage dogs run and a hospital that takes care of sick or injured strays as well as sterilisation and vaccination clinics for both owned pets and stray dogs and cats.

At the end of the tour, if you are interested in adopting your future best friend, the adoption team are on hand to provide all information that you need and will chat with you to be sure that you two are perfect match. Giving one of these lovely characters a home would be the perfect gift (to the dog or cat) and change their lives forever.

Dogs and cats at Soi Dog that are available for adoption are sterilised, vaccinated and received a full health check including dental care and skin care. All these activities are services for adoption are free of charge.

No matter you are traveling or living in Phuket, you can also be a part of Soi Dog community by applying to be a volunteer, because the Foundation relies completely on volunteers to socialise and walk the 500 dogs in their care, along with socialising the 100 cats.

This has become the hobby and joy of many volunteers in the past and will surely make you feel good giving these four-legged friends some delightful moments.

Volunteering hours are usually from 9am-4 pm (lunch break from midday–1 pm), Monday – Friday, however any help within those hours is much appreciated.

There is also a free pick up service from a few locations in Nai Yang each day at 8.40 am, returning at 4.00 pm each afternoon.
