Foreign woman pulled from sea after ignoring red flag in Phuket
A foreign woman was rescued from the sea yesterday, August 22, after ignoring a red flag warning and entering the water at Nai Thon Beach in Phuket, where strong waves and currents left her unconscious.
The incident was reported by the Facebook page โหดจัง จังหวัดภูเก็ต, which shared the case as a warning to tourists visiting Nai Thon Beach in Sakhu subdistrict, Thalang district.
According to the page, lifeguards tried to explain the danger and stop the woman from entering the water because red flags had been placed along the beach due to dangerous sea conditions at the time.
The tourist reportedly insisted on going swimming despite their warnings, telling a lifeguard, “I flew here because I wanted to swim.” The woman ignored their advice and entered the water.
Shortly afterwards, lifeguards saw the tourist struggling after she was caught by waves and currents and appeared unable to keep herself safe. They rushed into the sea and brought her back to shore.
The woman was unconscious after being pulled from the water but received assistance and was ultimately reported to be safe.
Amarin TV reported that lifeguards said they face similar difficulties every day because some tourists continue to ignore warnings and attempt to swim in areas marked with red flags.
They urged beachgoers to respect Phuket red flag warnings and follow lifeguard instructions. Red flags are used to warn swimmers of dangerous waves and currents rather than simply prevent people from entering the sea without reason.
Similarly, just two days earlier, on August 20, lifeguards rescued a foreign tourist from rough seas at Patong Beach in Phuket after he ignored red flags and warnings to stay out of the water, insisting that he was a strong swimmer.
