Phuket conservationists are calling for the protection of Guitarfish and Electric rays from fishermen after many of them have been found dead at Koh Racha Noi.

A Facebook user ‘Go-Eco Phuket’, a local conversation Facebook page, yesterday posted pictures and a video with a message reading… “We were notified by our network that 11 metres under the sea at Ao Maijet in Racha Noi Island that many dead Guitarfish and Electric rays have been found on corals.”

“Most of them are baby fish. We believed that fishermen have been catching them and the releasing them back as they are too small. Some fishing nets has been found in the area where those fish were found.”

“We are losing rare species which haven’t been found in Phuket for a long time. We need them to be protected from fishermen.”
