Yaowarat Road to close for three days

PHUKET: Yaowarat Road is scheduled to be closed May 8-10 due to ongoing construction work for the third phase of a project to bury power cables underground in Old Phuket Town.

Phuket City Municipality confirmed that the road will be closed from Suriyadej Circle to the Dibuk-Yaowarat intersection.

The project, which is a combined effort by Phuket City Municipality, Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority (PPEA), TOT Phone Company and CAT Telecom, involves burying power, internet and telephone cables across the area and re-paving the roads once the cables have been buried.

A budget of 32 million baht was set aside for the third phase of the project, which began in 2014. Officials announced at that time that the project was to be completed by the end of last year (story here).
