Wastewater project said to be on schedule

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket Municipal Councilor Ayoot Thansiriroj told the Gazette this morning that installation of the large wastewater pipe beneath Mae Luan Road in Phuket Town is now complete. The work, part of Phase Two of the municipality’s wastewater treatment project, began in May of this year. Starting next month, work will begin on laying pipe in Anuphasphuketkarn Road, near Phaya Thai Hospital, and in the small soi near the Phuket Boxing Stadium at Saphan Hin. Those installations, which will entail tearing up the roads and digging to depths of 2-2.8 meters, are scheduled for completion before year end. Khun Ayoot cautioned that the work in these areas will cause disruptions to traffic, particularly for tour buses using Anuphasphuketkarn Road to and from the pier at the Phuket Fishing Port. The municipal government says the 912-million baht wastewater treatment project, which began in December 1994 and is slated for completion in January 2003, is currently on schedule and within budget. The plant will be located near the incinerator at Koh Pee. With a capacity of 36,000 cubic meters/day, it will, according to plan, be capable of treating discharge from all premises – commercial, private and government – located within Phuket Municipality. The treated water will be released into the sea.
