Two more stormy days

PHUKET: Phuket can expect about two more days of strong winds and heavy rain as the slow-moving tropical depression responsible for the unusually surly weather moves slowly westward from central Thailand into Burma.

Arun Kerdsob, Chief of the Phuket Office for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (ODPM), told the Gazette that last night’s winds knocked over some trees at Saphan Hin and caused some flooding in Karon, but there were no reports of injury or major property damage resulting from the storm.

Municipal workers in both locales were able to deal with the situations before any public inconvenience was caused, he added.

Arun said his agency would keep a close watch on the situation overnight, especially flood-prone areas in tambons Wichit and Rassada, as well as in Phuket Town, where downed trees could cause traffic accidents.
