Tourist Police nab Phang Nga murder suspect

PHUKET: Tourist Police have 23-year-old Wanasart “Bank” Jeensrikong, for his role in the June 28, 2003 murder of Sarawuth Yamying in Phang Nga’s Takuatung District.

Following a tip-off, Wanasart was arrested on Thursday after he was found working as a chef at a hotel in Patong. Plainclothes police arrested the suspect at the hotel, which they declined to name.

Wanasart had confessed to his role in the killing, police said.

Wanasart was a resident of Village 2, Tambon Khok Kloy in Takuatung District, just across the Sarasin Bridge from Phuket.

Police allege that at 10 pm on the night of the murder, Wanasart and two other members of the “Simon” gang went to K. Sarawuth’s home and inflicted serious injuries from which he later died.

Neither the motive for the attack nor the weapons used were disclosed as police are continuing their investigation, police said.

The suspect has been handed over to the Khok Kloy Police, who are continuing their investigation with the aim of arresting the other assailants.
