Taiwanese tourist drowns at Hey Island

PHUKET: Mr Lin Ching Shiung, 52, a Taiwanese visiting Phuket with his wife, drowned on Tuesday while swimming at Hey Island. He became the fifth tourist to drown in Phuket waters in the past two weeks. Mr Lin was on a day trip to the island, 30 minutes southeast of Chalong, with a tour group. Weather conditions were said to be perfect, with gentle seas and practically no wind. Another tourist in the group spotted Mr Lin in trouble in the water and attempted to resuscitate him with CPR. The Bangkok Phuket Hospital was contacted and Mr Lin was sent by boat back to Chalong where an ambulance was waiting. Pol Capt Sanae Panmee of the Chalong Police Station received a report from the hospital at around 11 am, stating that Mr Lin had died of heart failure. Mrs Lin says that her husband will be cremated in Phuket before she returns to Taiwan.
