THAI boosts flights for Songkran

PHUKET: Thai Airways International announced yesterday that it will increase flights between Phuket and Bangkok during the Songkran festival next month. “The demand for Phuket during the festival this year has been stronger than last year because Songkran coincides with a weekend,” explained Pricha Nawong, district sales manager for Upper Southern Thailand. “So we have decided to add seven more flights between Thursday, April 13 and Sunday April 16.” Two of these will be from Bangkok to Phuket on the morning of April 13, with a third from Bangkok the following morning. The four other extra flights will be from Phuket to Bangkok, all on April 16, with the first taking off at 4 pm. Regular flights – which have a capacity of 6,000 passengers a day – are already 95% full during the Songkran period. The additional flights will add 1,000 seats over the four-day festival.
