Swedish royals arrive in Phuket

PHUKET: HM King Carl XVI Gustaf and HM Queen Silvia of Sweden arrived in Phuket yesterday for a week’s stay in a private villa at Trisara, near Nai Thon Beach, after attending HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Bangkok

During their Phuket stay they will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. They were married on June 19, 1976.

HRH Crown Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan is due to arrive tomorrow, staying until next Tuesday. The Prince will stay at the Amanpuri on Pansea Beach.

The Prince is a lover of water sports, Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura said. “We are already preparing activities for him. We have arranged for him to go parasailing, his favorite activity, in Patong. If the wind is too strong we will go to Koh Kai instead.”

HRH Crown Prince Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and his wife Sheikha Moza Bin Nasir Al-Musnad of Qatar, who were previously expected to visit Phuket after the Jubilee, have canceled.
