Suspect nabbed for thefts of 1.55 million baht

PHUKET TOWN: Police have caught a man suspected of stealing 200,000 baht from the Phuket Town Post Office in a break-in last month. Thavorn “Ord” Klomthong, 38, was arrested at his apartment yesterday. In the apartment, police found screwdrivers, pliers, a saw, a flashlight and other tools, as well as jewelry and cash. During questioning, Ord confessed to breaking into the Post Office, but admitted to stealing less than 30,000 baht. He also confessed to six other recent break-ins at shops around Phuket Town, in which the total amount stolen was more than 1.35 million baht. Ord also told the police that he had broken into “many other” places in recent months but could not remember them all. He said that he carried out the burglaries alone, and that the money was deposited into two bank accounts. Police later found that the combined balances in these accounts exceeded one million baht. Ord was previously convicted for thefts in Surat Thani and, after serving a five-year term, was released from prison two years ago. He remains in custody at the Phuket Town police station.
