Subsidized computers scheme launched

PHUKET: A nationwide scheme to allow Thais to get laptop computers more cheaply has been launched as a way to boost computer literacy and skills. Applications to buy the state-subsidized “Notebook ICT” computers are being accepted at Thai post offices across the country until the end of this month. Seven different models are available, including machines by Jade Quantum, SVOA, ATCM and IBM. Prices range from 24,503 baht to 40,114 baht. The scheme is restricted to Thai nationals and there is a limit of one machine per buyer. A 1,000-baht deposit is payable upon application. Delivery will be 45-60 days after the application deadline, with the computers being delivered to the post office designated on the application form. Buyers may pay the balance in cash when they pick up their computers, or may apply for financing at 6.25% annual interest from Krung Thai Bank or the Government Savings Bank. For more details, contact any post office branch.
