Student news readers head for finals

PHUKET TOWN: Students who picked up awards in a news reading contest today will have the chance to compete in a national competition on Children’s Day next weekend. Awards were given to young Phuket news readers at primary and secondary levels. The winner for news reading in Thai at the primary level was Pabhasara Boonsukul, from Tessabaaan Plookpanya school, followed by Bhasaranan Thongprasan from the same school, with Waranya Jantrathip from Tessabaan Samkong school third. The secondary-level winner was Uraiwan Saritdisuk, followed by Bhutikiat Kulruengsab, both of Satree Phuket school, and Punyanuch Kultholjinda, of Cherng Thalay Wittayakom school. In English news reading, Seul Lee, of Thai Hua school, came first followed by Philip Upton, of QSI International school, and Pearl Anne Hirunchai, of Darasamut Phuket. At the secondary level, Samui Vos, of Satree Phuket, came first, and Vaneza Sompolpong of Thai Hua school came second. The top three students in each category won grants of 2,000 baht, 1,000 baht and 500 baht. About 60 students took part in the competition, run by Television of Thailand, Phuket, Channel 11, with Phuket Arcadia Beach Resort. The national final takes place next Saturday.
