Seized yacht fails to sell at auction

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket Customs sold an impounded dinghy at auction today but retained a yacht that failed to bring a satisfactory bid. The yacht, “Silachai”, was seized at the Boat Lagoon on March 7 last year and sent for auction after the case was closed. Only one bid of 480,000 baht was received today. A new auction date will be set. There were five bids by sealed envelope for the dinghy, with the winning bid of 281,000 baht coming from Surawut Chaopraeknoi of Phuket Town. At the auction at Phuket Provincial Customs, Phuket Customs Inspector Satien Kamkubkij urged people planning to buy boats to make sure the transactions followed the law and that, where appropriate, taxes were paid.
