Samkong shortcut to become one-way

PHUKET: In a bid to relieve traffic congestion at the Wor Kor Intersection, the Rajabhat-Samkong road, which runs from the Wor Kor Intersection, past Phuket Rajabhat University (PRU) and ends at Yaowarat Rd, will be one-way from Monday.

Phuket City Police Traffic Inspector Maj Teerawat Leamsuwan said that the one-way system should ease traffic bottlenecks at the Wor Kor Intersection, where Thepkrasattri Rd and Rassadanusorn Rd meet.

Drivers will be able to enter the Rajabhat-Samkong road from Thepkrasattri Rd, pass PRU and continue to Yaowarat Rd, where traffic will remain two-way.

Traffic from Yaowarat Rd will be able to access PRU via the Rajabhat-Samkong road, although to reach Thepkrasattri Rd drivers will have to turn right onto Su Kanjana Wanich Rd, just after the Rajabhat weekend market.

The one-way system will be in force 24-hours a day and will be reviewed after May 31, Maj Teerawat said.

If there are no complaints, then the one-way system will be made permanent, he added.
