Public warned of jellyfish dangers in Krabi
KRABI: National park officials yesterday installed warning signs on Koh Hong to educate and warn locals and tourists about jellyfish ahead of the high season.
“The signs are in Thai and English, one featuring pictures of jellyfish to help identify which ones are venomous and which not. The other explains what to do if stung by a jellyfish,” said Jampen Pormpakdee, chief of the Koh Hong protection zone at Than Bok Khorani National Park.
Similar warning signs were installed back in April, when thousands of purple-colored jellyfish appeared off Krabi (story here).
“The old signs may not have reached everyone,” chief Jampen added. “We are installing many more to make tourists fully aware of jellyfish as well as other dangers and safety regulations that need to be followed in the area.”
A 1669 hotline has also been set up for emergency calls.
