Provincial intranet underway

PHUKET: Phuket Governor CEO Pongpayome Vasaputi yesterday chaired a meeting on the development of a computerized central database for all government offices operating within Phuket, known as the Phuket Net project. The move to develop the IT system is part of the Governor CEO administration experiment. At the meeting, which was held at the Provincial Hall, Preecha Wongchakorn, Director of the Surat Thani Institute of Communication, explained to representatives from state enterprises, government offices and local businesses how the system will affect them. The meeting was split into two sessions. During the first, K. Preecha explained how the system will work from the point of view of senior provincial officials. In the second, he explained to government officers who will be using the system, how it will work in detail. After the meeting, Gov Pongpayome told the Gazette, “The next step in the Phuket Net project is to develop the database, which will reduce wastage of government officers’ time and provide up-to-date information.”
