Police station wins top prize again

PHUKET TOWN: Phuket Town Police Station has beaten 60 other police stations in seven southern provinces to win first prize in the “Police Station for People” competition for the second year in a row. Pol Col Chalit Thinthanee, the police station’s superintendent, explained that the competition covered police stations across Region 8, which comprises Surat Thani, Chumphon, Ranong, Phuket, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, Krabi, and Phang-Nga. “Though we received the first prize in this campaign, we still have to maintain our good service,” Col Chalit added. “We want residents to feel comfortable when they come to our police station.” Second prize in the competition, for police stations commanded by superintendents, went to Koh Samui Police Station, and third to Nakhon Sri Thammarat Town Police Station. The competition evaluates how clean police stations are; the improvements made to the premises; how smoothly the traffic flows in their area; their public relations – particularly crime awareness campaigns; the rate of violent crime in their district; and the general management of officers and staff. The competition was judged by a committee headed by Pol Lt Gen Somsak Saibua, Commissioner of Provincial Police, Region 8. Sadly, Phuket was not on the scoreboard in the competitions for police stations commanded by deputy superintendents and inspectors. These awards went to police stations in Chumphon, Krabi and Phang Nga for the former category, and Surat Thani, Phang Nga and Ranong in the latter.
